new year's eve
Wednesday, December 31, 2008
I just discovered from PW that it's New Year's Eve today. ._. I have just spent my entire New Year's Eve indulging in scholastic activites, like finally starting and thankfully finishing my Commonwealth Essay. It sucks, but oh well. And while I am parked in front of my laptop, attempting to solve Treasure (LOL this would be a good time to insert a quote from Josie about Treasure, but doesn't have any bearing on the post: "I can't go to the front and listen to you talk! Little Chen needs me!") there is a stupid idiot celebrating New Year's Eve downstairs by tootling away merrily on one of those silly party favours that make an annoying sound. I swear, if he makes that sound ONE MORE TIME, I am going down there and punching him so hard in his face, he won't be able to see for weeks. Oh this reminds me of the new RGjudo shirt which I saw yesterday during CCAO. There's a picture of a fork and spoon (eat). A picture of a bed (sleep). A picture of someone throwing someone else (kill people). That eat, sleep, insert random activity here thing is so overused. If I see one more of those damn shirts I will also punch them so hard in the face they won't be able to see for weeks.

I HATE COMMONWEALTH ESSAY
I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE THE COMMONWEALTH ESSAY. I don't understand why the school insists on making us write stuff just so that they can pick and choose our entries for the competition. It's so forced and even though I have absolutely zero passion for any of the topics there, I still have to write a damn essay about it. I hate having to write essays. My style is not formal, it's not the kind that teachers like, it's just not made for essay writing, period. URGH. I just hope that in RALA they'll let us develop our own styles and not care too much if it's not the exact kind they want.

Gotta love XKCD.com. <3 I would gush about the loveliness of XKCD and the awesomeness of it, but I have more pressing and important matters to attend to, like coding (gosh my one-code-a-day resolution fizzled out after two days!) and therefore I wanna get this over and done with quickly. Therefore I'm just going to use Maddox's awesome disclaimer about hate mail. By sending me hate mail, you acknowledge that I own all rights to the entire contents of your message, any images sent with the message, your email address, your house, your car, your first born and your soul. Furthermore, you agree to make your email address publicly available on this or any other web site, and you accept my views and opinions as being right regardless of anything. Furthermore, you agree that it is okay for me or anyone else to slander and/or libel you on this or any other web site, in public, at your place of employment, or anywhere else in this or any other universe and/or dimension. Know that sending me hate mail is a request for character defamation, endless belittling and excessive mockery. You may not sue me for any reason, ever, and this disclaimer is subject to change without notice, and you are still subject to the rules regardless of any changes made. If you do not agree with these rules, then don't send me hate mail. Read through that, and while applauding Maddox for being creative enough to come up with something so funny, mentally change all the "hate mail"s to "stupid tags". Yay. Problem solved.

Woohoo the stickers I drew for CCAO during my long long (hehe 64bits worth!) shift at the booth are nice :D I feel a strange sense of achievement, because everyone said my stickers were nice hehehe! Cheryl boasted to people about my stickers ._. Ahahah that was probably the most rewarding part because I didn't have to waste time boasting about my own stickers >) I think Cheryl wanted to take some home but because no one could find a scissors... she didn't get to. Awww. She was trying to pick and choose though! I wanted to split with her two rows each, but she was like "Eee no no I only want this one, this one, this one, and that one. :D" Mass producing stickers is kinda hard though. The mikes at the end are all wonky >< On the bright side, though, I FINALLY SOLVED BIG MULTIPLICATION! FOR REAL! YAY! Daniel helped me find the bug though -_- It was a silly bug :D ♥φωταύγεια; sexysixfifteener! says: eek that was a pretty silly mistake >< ♥φωταύγεια; sexysixfifteener! says: omg haha luckily that wasn't me >) Daniel Chia says: oh that was chen ah ♥φωταύγεια; sexysixfifteener! says: hehe yeah Daniel Chia says: eep it's a copy paste error lah Daniel Chia says: can go smack him ♥φωταύγεια; sexysixfifteener! says: hahaha ♥φωταύγεια; sexysixfifteener! says: you smack la! ♥φωταύγεια; sexysixfifteener! says: because at least if he smacks back you could always just slam him onto a table or something Daniel Chia says: haha but i doubt he'll hit a girl! ♥φωταύγεια; sexysixfifteener! says: better to be safe than sorry! :D

my goals
Monday, December 29, 2008
MUAHAHAHAHA I HAVE A NEW GOAL FOR 2009: The OJ for the programming course has a scoreboard, where you can compare your scores with the scores of other people in the course and get some form of perverse satisfaction in seeing that you are ranked higher than some other people. WELL. For 2009, I'm going to steadily attempt the questions and SOLVE them, until I can beat Pang Wei's scoreboard ranking >) Then at least I'll have some form of, I dunno, satisfaction in seeing that I'm actually ranked higher than some of the instructors. Only 12 more questions to go! Damn, all the leftover questions are super hard. Maybe trying to beat Pang Wei's scoreboard ranking is a pipe dream, considering that both Zhenghao and Pang Wei use that account (hehe that's a confusing but amusing story which I'll put in my list, when I actually get down to doing it) and they could probably work their way to the top of the scoreboard in all of 5 minutes, but hey, I can dream, can't I?

- Victoria and I went crazy yesterday night. To show Zhenghao that we knew greek too (his nick was βρις, meaning hubris), we changed our nicks to φωταύγεια (luminescence) and αγάπη (love) respectively and waited for him to come online. Hahaha it's quite retarded coming to think of it but greek does look quite cool :)
HAHAHA koped off Keyun's blog again!! :D She says I'm becoming comnerdgeek but at least I'm not like titling my posts with for loops lor! I mean, I'm titling it with a function now, but only because I was inspired by her comnerdgeekness. Awesome! And yeah as soon as Zhenghao came online, we added him to our convo and were like, "LOOK ZHENGHAO, WE KNOW GREEK TOO!" I bet he must have been quite stunned by the whole randomness of it, but to give him credit for it he bounced back pretty fast and went, "That's good. I don't know Greek." But Greek looks quite cool, and therefore I'll keep my name as φωταύγεια for the time being ^^ He says he'll answer some questions about his numerous relatives if one of us wins a medal at NOI, so must go practice super hard >(

darn; zip it.
There is a spider in my bathtub. I HATE SPIDERS EW EW EW I'M NEVER GOING IN THERE AGAIN, AT LEAST NOT UNTIL THE SPIDER IS FOUND AND KILLED UGHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHH If anyone would come and kill the Spider In My Bathtub for me, I'd be eternally grateful and give you... um, maybe not a McSpicy, but a chocolate? It seems to work pretty well as a bribe. I don't care if Charlotte could spell in her stupid web, I'm not ever going to make friends with anything that has eight legs. It's just WRONG. Eight legs is two legs too many. Not that I like stuff with six legs. That time during programming Zhenghao took our entire class outside because Pangwei needed to use the whiteboard, and he was all, "Hehe they think we're making a sacrifice, but we're really coming out here to... drink Pepsi." But someone had spilt (HEHE SPL(!)IT HUNNY!) Pepsi, and there were ants crawling all over. Obviously everyone edged away from the Pepsi but Zhenghao looked at it somewhat impassively, said, "Oh well. More protein.", poured himself a cup of Pepsi, and drank it all. O.O After the lesson was over, he poured another cup of Pepsi and asked us all if we wanted some. Keyun and I were like, "Ew, no, there were ants in there." He drank all the Pepsi, peered in the cup, showed us the empty inside and said, "There, no ants what-" "-Or maybe I drank them. Ah who cares. More protein." Halfway through a lesson, a high-on-Pepsi ant started weaving its way across the table towards Keyun and I and we bent all the way back to avoid it. Zhenghao gave us a "wtf?" look and squashed the ant. I spent the rest of the lesson staring at the ant's carcass. Maybe if I glare hard at the Spider In My Bathtub and envision the ant's squashed carcass, it'll spontaneously combust and squash itself. ...not working. Anyway speaking of favours, which was what I was talking about before I spun off into the whole ant saga, I tried a bit of a McSpicy today! :D You can make almost anyone do almost anything if you offer them McSpicys, so I decided to try a leeeeetle bit to see exactly what the whole appeal of McSpicys were. I took a bite. And then immediately drunk half my cup of Coke. McSpicys are... spicy. I'm never eating anything like that ever again. Hmm Denise says she knows who Daniel is :D Apparently he came up to her while she was blowing her nose on the couch (blowing her nose, on the couch, not blowing her nose on the couch) and asked her something like "Are you Victoria's classmate?" Haha she was kinda freaked out, I think. >) Creepy stalker huh! :D After she said that she spent like 10 minutes gushing about how pro Daniel apparently is. Something about shooting 577. I dunno. My brain always turns off and I go onto autopilot whenever people start talking about shooting. Grah CCAO tomorrow; prepare to be wowed by a rousing chorus of "GO GO POWER RANGERS!!!!"

too bloody hot
Saturday, December 27, 2008
I am redecorating my file for next year. Therefore I am busy and won't post for very long. It is too bloody hot. It is so hot, I got sunburnt while sitting in the car, with the aircon on full blast. I know that isn't exactly an uncommon occurrence, but still. When the weather gets too hot, people get unusually violent. My dad turned on the radio, and the stupid deejays decided to remind the whole world that while they were sitting happily in a fully air-conditioned and sheltered studio, we mere mortals have to melt out in the bloody sun, which is totally going to be responsible if I develop skin cancer. "HUA LA LA LA LA, XIA YU LIAO..." If I had, say, a metal bar, or even a plastic spoon, I would have ripped the stupid radio from wire to wire. But I was hiding behind my piano books, trying not to get too sunburnt, so all I could do was turn on my iPod and try to block out the singer who was happily belting out a song about rain. Speaking of songs, Cherylchan wants to play DJ for a Day and we're going to be, um, playing music during CCAO. And she put me in charge of getting music. Um, if anyone's been paying attention to my "Show what I'm listening to", you'll know that my taste in music isn't, ahem, exactly... conventional. So I'm appealing to you goodhearted souls to tell me what most people listen to. Unless of course you don't mind listening to an energetic "GO GO POWER RANGERS!!!!" or "He's a semi-aquatic, egg-laying mammal of action, doo doo doo de doo bap, doo doo doo de doo bap" while going on your booth tour. (:

Enjoy the rest of the holidays before the sand flies come around in OBS! (Beware: Sand flies love to bite around ankles, calves, shins and feet and leave SCARS that last for a long, long time, so spray the repellent liberally!) Till 2009, Miss Ong -- Why do I get the feeling Ms Ong is trying to HINT something? Thank goodness I'm not going for OBS then; the last thing I need is MORE scars. My arms are already riddled with scars from the ezcema, and so is my back. Not to mention the scars from the stitches from the biopsy, which kinda look like... a snake bite. ._. I would say vampire bite, but then any Twilight addicts coming to my blog would probably start screaming like crap and demanding stitches too. So, at least being allergic to sunlight is better than getting not just scars, but SCARS at OBS. Have fun! >)

merry xmas!
Aww nothing like a nice greeting to brighten up the day. (: Haha yesterday night I was listening to Mighty Morphing Power Rangers until I got weird questions from Zhenghao about it, so I changed it to Hannah Montana. Then Joshyeo was all "HANNAH MONTANA ZOMBIE!!!!" at me, which was totally unfair because well I'm not as much a Hannah Montana zombie as he is a HSM zombie. >) So after that I changed the song to the Perry the Platypus theme song, which had a very strange soporofic effect on me. I decided it was a good idea to just put my head on the laptop and sleep. :D Obviously my code got super screwed up. Aiya I'll tackle the whole debugging aspect later la. (: Anyway, loads of messages this morning! :D Hahahaha when I checked my phone it read something like "7 new messages". There were Xmas greetings from Kester, Ruth, Peishan, Sherman... and a reminder to check my email from Cheryl Chan. ): Nothing to spread the festive cheer like a reminder to get down to work. LOL even Keyun found time (space?) to add a little "Merry Christmas" in at the end of her rant, which read something like: "Haha victoria! I tried asking zhenghao yesterday, but he doesn't fall for tictacs anymore ): but he said he'll tell us if both of us get a medal for noi... which is as good as saying he'll never tell cos i cmi and not going anw! Haha you try to convince him to tell if YOU get a medal la, more possible (: hehe merry christmas!" At first I thought it was going to be another dud but the last three words totally made me laugh even more, on top of all the laughing I did when I read the first part of the message. Anyway for you people who don't understand the message, we're trying to get Zhenghao to tell us which of our friends are actually related to him :O So if you are, you could *hint* save us the trouble *hint* and tic tacs *hint* and *hint* tell us. :D Hahahaha and then there were lengthy emails with festive cheer too! *grins* Hello everyone!
On behalf of all of us, I'll like to say a big thank-you to all of you for coming for the NOI course! We hope that all of you managed to learn something new, while having an enjoyable and memorable experience at the same time.
Although the intensive course has come to an end, it's just the beginning for all of you guys! Computer science is a rapidly growing and evolving field, and is one of the biggest fields of scientific endeavor right now. Even if you don't end up pursuing a career in it, programming is something that's going to be useful to all of you, whatever field you go into - physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, medicine, finance, business, etc.
As you guys would have undoubtedly found out, learning programming also trains your brain to think in a logical and structured way. That's another invaluable lesson that will definitely help you in your future endeavors. :)
NOI is also a gateway to international competitions, and is a great thing to have on your resume, for those of you worried about university applications and scholarships. Many research projects also involve some aspects of programming, so it can never hurt! IOI is one of the major international competitions for high school students, and all universities look at it, and related competitions like NOI, seriously.
So continue to train hard! We're always open to questions, so please feel free to talk to us online if you want to. The OJ will also be left online for all of you to practice. We'll be holding the NOI selection test for the schools next year, so practice for that as well; an excellent way of doing so is to actually attempt the NOI questions under a competition environment, so time yourself and make sure you check your work before submitting. Train yourself to program for 4 hours at a shot!
Once again, from all of us- Merry Christmas, and have a wonderful year ahead. :)
Cheers, Daniel Minghan Pang Wei Zhenghao
P.S. My pathology report shows that the tumor was in fact benign, so there's no cancerous spread which means that I'm completely healthy now! Phew. Thank you for all the well-wishes and nice messages, guys! :))
AWWWW (: Haha I remember Pangwei sent us all something on Valentine's Day as well. Something about infinite for loops bring so romantic. But what's better than an inspirational email you thought might be another dud, which actually turned out to have a huge Merry Christmas at the bottom! Apparently, according to the timestamp, he sent it at 12:50am :O Do they like never sleep or something! Hey,
Its no problem, sorry I was so distracted.
Ok i looked through your code and I've included a "corrected" copy below, its not correct yet, because there is still a minor detail, but it does what its supposed to do (which is multiply two numbers) but before you look at it I want you to think about some things (and then try to correct your code instead of looking below).
-5 questions pertaining to my code which aren't important, and take up a lot of space so I removed them here ):-
If you can answer the above problems, you should be able to fix your code. If after you answered the above problems and you are still stuck, you can look below for inspiration : P
Dont worry your code is largely correct : D, I have just made a few corrections as per the few points above.
Jiayou! You're really close, good job on trying your problems even at home! Jiayou!
--zhenghao p.s. MERRY CHRISTMAS! [CODE (WAYYY) BELOW, DONT LOOK IF YOU HAVENT TRIED ANSWERING THE QNS ABOVE]
HAHAHA OWNAGE LOR. After sending someone a whole lot of cheem questions, remember to wish them merry christmas so they'll still be willing to give you chocolates if you ask nicely. :D And this was apparently sent at 2:38am. :O NONID SLEEP MEH :O Anyway to everyone, MERRY CHRISTMAS :D Sorry I didn't sms yall, but my handphone's running out of money thanks to the super long phone calls Keyun and I made on Friday. But you know you all rock, so spread the love and cheer and festive-punch-drunk feeling around the world :D Or maybe just Singapore, if your handphone doesn't offer free roaming. >) Special mention to 6GE06: I LOVE YOU GUYS THE BESTEST <333>

bad self esteem
Tuesday, December 23, 2008
Rachel and Crystal and I went out for lunch after our respective CCAs yesterday. After a huge plate of creamy pasta from pastamania, we decided that if we hopped on the MRT there and then, we'd almost certainly puke, leaving a rather icky mess to clean up, so we decided to walk it off to Plaza Sing. On the way Rachel suddenly remembered that she had a free-drink-from-Starbucks-coupon and decided to go use it. And while Rachel was buying her drink, Crystal and I stood and stoned at the pastries counter. That was when we encountered... THE UGLY CHICKEN PUFF. No I'm serious. The name of the pastry was "Ugly Chicken Puff". Hello, bad self esteem much? Who comes up with these names anyway? They might just have crushed all hopes and dreams of a poor little chicken puff, which didn't even look that bad anyway. The Ugly Chicken Puff was, apparently, only the tip of the rejects heap. Next to it, looking way more crushed, was the "Uglier Curry Puff...(with chicken)." OIE SO MEAN! Anyway there's P6GE06 class reunion later, and I'm so excited :D :D :D I'll take pictureloads of pictures and then I'll put them all up here or on Facebook or where ever! Pity Crystal couldn't go though; we were supposed to have put up the perfect blonde moment. Awww. But I guess that'll have to wait, until the next class reunion or something. In the meantime, to prevent myself from exploding with excitement, I SHALL GO CODE. AGAIN :D YAY!

programming photos!
Monday, December 22, 2008
Haha Daniel finally uploaded the photos of the programming course (maybe I'm impatient, considering it's only been... 2 days? But still. :D) and therefore I shall kope them and put them here! Blogger screwed up the order of the photos and since I'm too lazy to refer to see what goes where, I shall just plunk the photos here in a random order, and you can just look at them :D Because they are awesome. Because the programming course was awesome. Yay :D Hehe Zhenghao was going through the problems with us. He's kneeling on a chair (a self-professed bad habit, because, as demonstrated with help from Daniel, it's easy to fall.) More going through the solutions! Haha I can't remember the person who's standing up's name, except that he looked kinda really buaysong. Um. Okay. That wasn't a really helpful description. Zhenghao has many poses while teaching! This is another LOL. I don't know why there are so many photos of Zhenghao going through the problems. I don't know why I even uploaded all of them. Hehe I can't remember what he was going through at this time (I think it was Mousetrap) but it kinda looks like he's trying to turn the chair into something else using magic. :D Pangwei coding! HAHAHA they were watching the OJ mark Class B's problems! Everyone loves watching the OJ mark stuff :) I think this was when Zhenghao was getting a massage from Daniel or something. Either that or Daniel pushed him onto the table. ._. I see one of those weird two ended pens :D Everyone hates coding under time stress... ...But some react to it more violently than others. You can see Josie attempting a "WHY ME, O CRUEL WORLD" pose. And if I'm not wrong (and I don't think I'm wrong. My eyesight isn't that bad yet. I hope.) it's Daniel and Minghan slouching in the corner. OH OH OH Zhenghao made Josie pose for this photo! This is apparently Josie's thinking pose. But Crys, I bet you already knew that, didn't you? >) It really eludes me how some people can still smile while trying to code stuff. And this was the class B kinda stuff. The really hard problems kinda stuff. Our comlab4! Um I think this was when Zhenghao was going around giving out hints. Anyway you can see more frustrated people. Like Joel Low and the guy next to him. The reason I look vaguely constipated in this is because I'm trying not to laugh. Zhenghao was helping me debug my code or something like that. I can't remember ohnoes! D: AND DON'T BE DECEIVED BY THIS. Zhenghao was only PRETENDING to help me because Daniel told him to pose for a picture :O Haha but he helped me in the end, even though I got all WA D: More frustrated people woohoo!! (BTW that's the famous Zexi.) Hehehe <3 programming!

what time is it, mr wolf
Saturday, December 20, 2008
Gosh I was walking out to get a cup of water when all of a sudden I just stopped and stoned for awhile. My mum saw me standing there, looking rather dead, and asked what was wrong. "Hey, mum, what day is today?" "Saturday." "So tomorrow's Sunday?" "It would seem so." "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!" It doesn't seem like 1 week has passed at all! Or 6 days, but still. Now I know how the CAP people felt when they were all being emo and going around yelling that they were in CAP withdrawal. Keyun says it's because for the past 6 days, for(i = 0; i < 6; i++){ void Coding(int day){ wake up; go to RJC; code; sleep; day = day + 1; Coding(day); } } (Disclaimer: I'm not actually sure that'll work, because I pretty much suck at coding/debugging recursive functions, and I don't think I declared a base case or made use of i, but you get the idea.) Basically we just woke up, coded, slept, woke up, coded, slept, woke up, coded, slept... so apparently the passage of time is... stunted? I dunno. It feels so short though. Plus I can't stop thinking in code. ): Well, at least I'm not going around making poetry out of random stuff like laundry spinning in a dryer... ...I'll code a program to find the speed of laundry spinning in a dryer. ):

raffles algo express!
10 WAYS TO TELL IF YOU'RE BECOMING A PROGRAMMING NERD: 10. When the instructors buy you pizza for lunch, you say that we ought to solve the problem of having pizza by using a Greedy algorithm. And to use a Greedy algorithm, you have to sort. And to sort you can use brute force, which includes trying every flavour of pizza to find out which one is the nicest >) 9. When you walk past a full dustbin, someone says "Uh oh, stack overflow!" and you laugh. 8. You can code a program based on Zhenghao's facial expressions. 7. You code a program to code a program based on Zhenghao's facial expressions. ( if(zhenghao == (: ) continue; if (zhenghao == ): ) break; ) 6. You code a depthfirstsearch to play Scramble for you so that you get an imba high score. 5. Your idea of an insult is yelling "ARRAY YOU!" at someone. 4. Your idea of a threat is saying "WAIT I DIJK YOUR STRA!" 3. You think watch the OJ mark people's submissions is really fun. 2. You get really excited when you see the OJ marking people's submissions with multiple, uh, mistakes (eg WrongAnswer, TimeLimitExceeded, MemoryLimitExceeded, OutputLimitExceeded, CRASH(siegsev), PresentationError, PARtial credit) and start cheering for the submission to get all of these mistakes instead of a single OK. 1. Before a short ConTest (the instructors' way of saying "test" in a way that won't get people quite as jittery), instead of saying "I'm getting more and more scared ohnoes!" you tell the person next to you, "while(true) scared++;". -- These ARE real life examples taken from the course of these 6 days :D Not all mine, most are other people's too. :) Anyway the ConTest today was super hard. I managed to do a grand total of... 1 QUESTION! YAY ME! *clap clap clap* Haha London Tipton is so awesome! :D Yay. But at least I got 10.0 for that and I wasn't the worst >.< Gosh I think I'm losing my touch for blogging after 6 consecutive days of coding from 9am-5pm. Now if my blogpost isn't properly indented, with curly brackets, it looks so wrong. And I feel uneasy not putting a ';' after every sentence. If my RALA writings next year look like code... I can't help it. Haha during the ConTest Zhenghao came over and took a Tic Tac and a chocolate as usual. Apparently he liked the chocolate, because as I was eating them and thinking of a solution to one of the problems, he came over and was all, "Need help? If I give you a hint will you give me a chocolate?" Obviously I did it. But sheesh Zhenghao cannot be trusted! The hint didn't really help. ): And then after that he told me to just bruteforce the thing, and I'd at least get a PAR, but he lied and I got all WA. D: Oooh and in the morning Josie was calling someone on his handphone, and Zhenghao walked past and was all, "Wah Crystal arh!" Haha so I decided to help out and go "YAY CRYSTAL!" But for some weird reason Zhenghao decided that Josie, Crystal and I were in a love triangle, because I kept calling Josie 'Josie'. Although, in my defence, I call Josie 'Josie' because Josie is gay and Josephine is just too much of a mouthful. I don't like Josie. D: Ughhhhh. Then okay during the ConTest I was trying to weasel hints out of Josie, by going, "EHHH JOSIE I'M YOUR GIRLFRIEND'S BEST FRIEND. MUST HELP ME ): " Zhenghao overheard and was all, "No! Joseph! You will not curry favour with your girlfriend by helping her best friend! I won't stand for it!" which made Josie rather annoyed and made me rather amused. Josie got restless halfway through the ConTest and begged Zhenghao to let him go down to the 7-11 to buy food. Then Zhenghao had a bright idea and told Josie to go fight Daniel for the rights to go downstairs to buy food. Daniel is (was?) a judo person, and fighting him would probably have the same effect as, say, fighting Xinyuan, except that Xinyuan would probably do less damage. I dunno if Josie realised this or if he was just desperate, but he agreed. But Daniel was lazy to go thrash Josie, so we didn't get to witness an Ultimate Showdown. (EDIT: I just decided to take a leaf out of Daniel's book [see later] and actually READ people's profiles and WTF I just discovered that Daniel wasn't from judo, he was from shooting ._. OH GOSH please tell me he's not the same Daniel that Denise and Jia Yi keep talking about. So I guess it's lucky for Josie that Daniel was too lazy to kick his ass, because I figure he could probably do more damage by shooting him instead of just throwing him. :O) And just when we were going to go in front and watch the wonderful exciting thrilling once-in-a-lifetime OJ-marking-our-solutions, the instructors were like, "Since this is such a special occasion, we have a special guest!" and they opened the door and OMG PANGWEI WALKED IN :O At first I thought I was hallucinating, so I asked Keyun if that really was Pangwei and she practically whacked my head and went "YES LA!!!" Yay! It was almost like old times. Except without Junjie, but with Minghan. Awwww. And to make things better, they'd ordered pizza for us :) Oh I forgot to say. Zhenghao was trying to call Josie, who was stoning and thus didn't hear. So Zhenghao was going, "OI! JOSEPH! JOSEPH! JOSEPH THE JELLY!" :O I was pretty shocked by this so I asked him, "OMG YOU KNOW JOSIE'S BLOG?!?!?!" Zhenghao: "I KNOW EVERYTHING >)" Me: "Do you know MY blog then?" Daniel (who was sitting super far from us and tapping away at his laptop, so I'd previously assumed that he wasn't listening): "I know your blog!" Me: "HUH?!?!?!" Daniel: "It's on Facebook! ^^" Eee anyway if you people are reading this, thanks for a great 6 days :D And don't judge my blogging by this blogpost. I'm still trying to switch from code to prose. ): Zhenghao: "Anyway I have lots of relatives. Lots of relatives in the Raffles schools. Some of whom don't share my surname. >)" EH WHO HERE IS ACTUALLY A RELATIVE OF ZHENGHAO?! WHY NEVER TELL ME!!! And anyway one thing HAS come out from the discovery that Zhenghao knows Josie's blog: I finally realised why it's josephtheJELLY. :)

I should be coding Dikjstra's Algorithm now but I'll do it in a few minutes, I swear! :D Hehe today was AWESOME, as usual. DP in the morning. LOL. I am of the opinion that Zexi is rather irritating because he keeps shouting out stuff. Joel keeps answering the stuff I wanna answer so we keep answering at the same time. (This isn't Joel TAN. Thankfully it's not, or I'd think it way creepy, considering how I saw him at AVS. It's a different Joel.) Which made Zhenghao start talking about running a dating service. -_- Dunno la I think we both answered something at the same time again, and then after that I wouldn't answer, because well that's just what I do. Apparently my interrupting Joel made him lose his train of thought. Then Zhenghao tried to matchmake him and me. -_- Which was disturbing, but not as disturbing as what happened after lunch. I was arguing with Josie about something and then Zhenghao tried to matchmake me and Josie D: D: D: HELLO DISTURBING MUCH? And then Joel, having also been a victim of one of Zhenghao's random matchmaking nonsense things, was getting exasperated and Zhenghao was all, "HEHE JOEL GETTING JEALOUS LIAO." OMG damn disturbing. Not fair lor why Keyun never kena ): When Zhenghao gets high on tictacs and chocolate, it's easy to get him to check your code >) Anyway I think I'm becoming a programming nerd! Like Keyun and I were laughing when Minghan told Zexi not to throw stuff in an already more or less full dustbin, or else "stack overflow >)" And we WROTE an algorithm to write codes based on Zhenghao's facial expressions and laughed about that for super long. :O And I would blog longer, but Joshyeo wants me to tell him the sensationalised, subjective, biased and fun version of Josie and Crystal, and Crystal is being surprisingly tight-lipped, and I still have to code Dikjstra's. D: D: D: ARRAY! (That's the programming nerd's version of a swear word :D) Hehe and not to mention threats like "I DIKJ YOUR STRA LA!"

Haha I think heck the Japan post already. If you wanna know about Japan you can just ask me directly. Or I might be inspired and work on it. Keep watching the space below this post. IMMA POST ABOUT THE SUPER DUPER AWESOME PROGRAMMING THINGY! :D 4 days of bashing codes has, surprisingly, not made me run screaming from the OJ (online judge! not orange juice! :D) but for some strange reason, makes me want to code somemore! :D Pangwei and Zhenghao and Daniel and JJ would be so proud if they knew. It's not the same as the DMP. Still fun and uhh funny, but I miss Pangwei and JJ ): It's not the same without them. And haha not to mention our com lab 4 in the RI junior block! I remember they were always presenting stuff so it was dimmer and it was... cozier? I dunno. But everytime I walk into juniorblock and smell juniorblock's smell (it has a rather distinctive smell. Keyun and I both think it comes from the toilets.) I feel like coding. But haha Zhenghao and Daniel are funny too :) Minghan's helpful, but for some reason everytime he comes around to our side we know what we're doing at that point in time so I don't really know him that well ): But I think the way he always goes: "Problems? Questions?" is really cute haha! Anyway they say we're all improving alot :D I dunno la. I still feel rather stupid. Like I told Zhenghao yesterday, I'll be happy if I ever manage to debug my own codes. Although truthfully, I hate debugging. ): I never manage to figure out what's wrong. More quotable quotes today! (The rest are on perspicacious.) Zhenghao: "I'm glad to see that everyone's picking up the good habit of declaring meaningful variable names. Just don't declare them too long. I saw one that was half a page long. Hehe. Anyway in coding you'll get alot of bad habits. It's life. Look at me: I like to kneel on chairs. It's a bad habit because-" Daniel: "-you might fall?" *pushes Zhenghao off the chair* Zhenghao: "Ow yeah. And also hanging around with violent people like Daniel. That's another bad habit." Zhenghao: "Another common problem- uh, okay, only one person has done it so far, but still. Don't hardcode too much!" Josie: "EHHH IN MY DEFENCE, IT WORKED OKAY!" Zhenghao: "I never said it was you! Tsk tsk why are people nowadays so defensive?!" Josie: "*in the classic stubborn Josie way* But it works." Zhenghao: "Yeah it works. But would you rather make the computer bruteforce for you, or would you rather bruteforce for the computer?" (I think it was Josie though. Josie is famous for hardcoding. Because he can't think for nuts >) Heh.) Zhenghao: "Okay, that's all for dynamic programming for today. Any questions? Like why Daniel is so handsome? *undertone* It's because he uses SK-II. Or why Daniel is a homophobe?" Daniel: "I'm not a homophobe!" Zhenghao: "Then why were you pairing only girls and guys for the example just now?" Daniel: "How else would I show monogamy? Would you rather I used guys and guys :O" OH and today we coded BFS. D: Keyun and I were lazy to think, so we asked Zhenghao. Zhenghao obviously told us to Think (with a capital T, because it's Important. With a capital I.) and discuss among each other. Since we wanted to be sneaky and cunning we asked him if we could ask Pangwei, who was on gtalk. At first he agreed but then he realised that we were going to be sneaky and cunning and just ask Pangwei how to code BFS, so he was like "NOOOO I'll tell him not to tell you!" Luckily Zhenghao always leaves his iPhone (:O!) in random weird places so while he was scrambling around trying to find it so he could message Pangwei and tell him not to give us the answer, we quickly asked Pangwei if we could ask him a question and could he please please please answer it before he gets messaged evil propoganda from Zhenghao. Pangwei asked us if it was one of those questions we had to Think about. And then he was telling us to Think and then Think some more for so long that Zhenghao messaged Pangwei and told him not to tell us the answer. ): Then Pangwei was all "HEHE TOO LATE! :D" Eeeee. We tried bribing Pangwei with chocolate, but he told us that he'd been eating chocolate non-stop for the past few days, and his chocolate supply was in fact increasing. So we tried bribing him with more random stuff like milk and eggs, but he said he had lots of those stuffs too. Eee Pangwei has everything. Including answers. The only bad thing about the com lab is that their coms only have Windows Messenger and not WLM. So I can't ctrl-space my chat windows and have to frequently close Joshyeo's and Crystal's chat windows. Not that I chat all the time. I work. Really I do. :) Only that today I was kinda slow, on account of having slept at 11pm (because I was coding) and waking up at 6am (to finish coding). Anyway I was reading this amusing article that Zhenghao showed us this morning which was apparently inspired by this other amusing article. Let's see what they say about C! 1. C is a racing car that goes incredibly fast but breaks down every fifty miles. 2. C would be Judaism - it's old and restrictive, but most of the world is familiar with its laws and respects them. The catch is, you can't convert into it - you're either into it from the start, or you will think that it's insanity. Also, when things go wrong, many people are willing to blame the problems of the world on it.
Hehe at least it sounds better than some of the others! 1. C++ is a souped-up version of the C racing car with dozens of extra features that only breaks down every 250 miles, but when it does, nobody can figure out what went wrong. 2. Visual Basic is a car that drives you. 3. Haskell is an incredibly elegantly-designed and beautiful car, which is rumored to be able to drive over extremely strange terrain. The one time you tried to drive it, it didn't actually drive along the road; instead, it made copies of itself and the road, with each successive copy of the road having the car a little further along. It's supposed to be possible to drive it in a more conventional way, but you don't know enough math to figure out how. 4. Perl would be Voodoo - An incomprehensible series of arcane incantations that involve the blood of goats and permanently corrupt your soul. Often used when your boss requires you to do an urgent task at 21:00 on friday night. 5. LOLCODE would be Pastafarianism - An esoteric, Internet-born belief that nobody really takes seriously, despite all the efforts to develop and spread it. 6. Visual Basic would be Satanism - Except that you don't REALLY need to sell your soul to be a Satanist...
BTW LOLCODE IS AWSUM! (credits to Joshyeo. I wouldn't have known how to spell awsum properly otherwise :D) Here's their HAI WORLD example: (yes it's code! :O) HAI CAN HAS STDIO? VISIBLE "HAI WORLD!" KTHXBYE Hehe LOLCATS. :D Okay byebye must go sleep now. Otherwise I won't be able to wrap my head around DP tomorrow. :)

why do fat people keep happening to me?
Sunday, December 14, 2008
We interrupt the wait for the mega long Japan post to bring you an important post: WHY DO FAT PEOPLE KEEP HAPPENING TO ME?! I was at Compass Point (WTF why there got so many fat people?) and already late for my violin lesson. Obviously I was rushing towards the escalator, because if you've been to Compass Point and taken the lift, you'll know that the lift is suckshit slow. And of all things, there was a huge stage blocking the most direct path to the escalator. I was thus forced to venture into the huge throng of people looking at Christmas ornaments around the stage. I was happily weaving my way through when- ohnoes! TWO FAT AUNTIES, AND A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE. Uhh actually just two fat aunties looking at a Christmas tree. I was nice and polite. I said "excuse me". They didn't do anything, except perhaps move a little more slowly just to piss me off. Maybe they though they were thin enough to let a whole herd of cows pass them by, but hell no. I was bobbing around behind them, trying to find an opportunity to cut through and get to my class a mere 5 minutes late. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt and said "excuse me" a little more loudly. Okay, maybe not a little more loudly. I practically shouted in their ears, and they had better have heard it. But what do you expect? Obviously they didn't move any faster. And then HAH opportunity presented itself! Fat Auntie #2 was abit laggy and a space (albeit small) appeared between Fat Auntie #1 and Fat Auntie #2. I decided that since they were the Inconsiderate Fat People (IFP) type, they ought to be jostled just like how other IFPs do to us. I squeezed past them. It was hard, but I managed it. (You don't know what trying to squeeze in between two IFPs is like. It is twice as bad as get jostled by a fat, chicken-wing-elbow auntie.) As I walked off, I heard the two IFPs mutter about how inconsiderate teenagers nowadays were. Oh, the irony. Stupid IFPs. Author's note: From hereon I shall refer to the fat people who annoy me as IFPs, or Inconsiderate Fat People/ Person. I'm not fat-ist. I like fat people; it's IFPs I can't stand.

Back from Japan :D It was awesomely cold. And cool. I'm blogging just a really short post to revive my blog, because I shudder to think of the state it'll be in if I leave it dormant for a couple of days or so. (The actual Japan post I'm working on will take super long.) More random people might leave more stupid offensive tags. Urgh. HEHE anyway I have loads and loads of Qoo. :D :D :D Like all the 4 flavours I could find there. Yay. Japan stuff is really ex but also really pretty and all. Pompoms are apparently extremely in for this year's winter collection. There are boots with pompoms, jackets with pompoms, hats with pompoms, gloves with pompoms. Almost everything has pompoms attached. As you can tell I'm really tired. As soon as I got off the plane I had to go back home and practice violin, because I promised my teacher I'd practise but uhh. Well. You get the idea. So this will probably be the last blogpost you'll see in a short while, at least until I get the mega Japan one done. It's going to be really long, so brace yourselves :D Don't want to read also can. But it's better if you do :D I'm so tired I can barely string a sentence together, let alone be witty/funny/amusing/insert synonym for funny here.

i knew the peaceful silence was too good to last
Despite setting off really very late, I arrived at school the earliest of all the people who were supposed to come down for video editing today. We weren't exactly very productive in terms of video editing, but we did ooh and aah over *cough* certain pictures. And level 30 for National Neopian :D After that Crys came and we went to call our teachers about the MPP recommendation. It was an extremely easy task, considering that none of them were in. Crystal and Xinyuan wanted to get the rest of their textbooks. Crystal decided to go law by law and bought all the 4 Habits Of Mind foolscaps and the 2 gaozis that the booklist told us to buy. ._. I only bought the blue one (since it's the nicest one) and 1 gaozi, because they eventually get really crumpled and I can buy a new straight one. I hate using crumpled foolscap. And on top of that, she bought the 5 exercise books that the booklist said she should buy. AND the amaths textbook. With all that load, obviously she wanted a plastic bag, but Xinyuan was there and thus refused to let Crystal take a plastic bag. We pointed out to her that it was but just 1 plastic bag, and not a bar of gold, but she parroted the environmentalists' line of "one plastic bag is one too many!" Crystal assured her that she would recycle the plastic bag by using it as a bin liner, but then Xinyuan got violent and kept grabbing the bag away. -_- I told her that she was turning into a militant environmentalist and an eco-terrorist. She glared at me and said that there were no such things as eco-terrorists. Crystal and I both looked at her and said loudly, "YES THERE ARE!!!!" before turning to each other and squealing, "PRINCESS DIARIES!!!!!!" But obviously Crystal didn't get her plastic bag in the end. Xinyuan kept snatching it away (although in the process, she probably crumpled it beyond use and thus there's one plastic bag that's going to get thrown away. Oh, the irony.) and Crystal trying to giggle and snatch the bag at the same time. Not very effective. In the end Xinyuan made Crystal shove everything into her bag, and she had to carry her street directory (which was already in her bag) and amaths textbook by hand. It was not until we were on the bus that Xinyuan realised that, in the process of stopping Crystal from using one measly plastic bag, she'd left her wallet in the bookshop. -_- So we had to walk all the damn way back from Far East to RGS, because she didn't want to waste another 35c. And any form of exercise generally puts me in a bad mood. ESPECIALLY when it started RAINING on us halfway and they started running. Running pisses me off like crap, so I slowly walked in the rain. If I catch cold, Xinyuan is going to owe me big time. And then after that Crystal and I decided that we were not going to go back to Far East, because the bus stop opposite RGS is filled with mosquitos and other mutant crap, and it is in short a rather horrible place. So we decided to tell Xinyuan that she owed us and therefore we were going to either HDB Hub or J8, preferably J8, since HDB Hub is lame. At this very moment two ladies walked up and asked us if we knew where The Pines Country Club was. Since RGS is located in a very, uh, country-club-ish area, we didn't exactly know and we were about to apologise and send them on their way when Crystal suddenly squealed: "I HAVE A STREET DIRECTORY!" The ladies exchanged looks of bemusement that people actually carry street directories around, but we found it pretty fast. It's the one opposite our school, on the side of the mutant bus stop. :D Okay as expected Xinyuan refused to go to J8 and instead suggested that we go to Coro. We'd heard alot about Coro and lemonchicken, so we agreed. Xinyuan tried to make us run for a bus, but like I said earlier running makes me pissed off so I continued strolling. It didn't matter much anyway, since practically every bus there goes to Coro -_- Coro was... depressing. It was one of those very depressing malls that make you feel sleepy. In the random restaurant where we went to (not lemonchicken, because Xinyuan didn't want to eat lemonchicken. Surprise, surprise.) Crystal and I were voicing our depression amidst cheery blaring Christmas carols. This huge flood of HCJC people came in and Crystal finally looked up. Crystal: "RJC?" Me: "Yeah. RJC." Xinyuan: "What RJC?" Us: "We're going to RJC." Xinyuan: "I thought you both wanted to go HCJC!" Us: "HCJC, Coro. RJC, J8. Obvious choice." And then we slumped right back down. After the soup though, we'd brightened up enough to discuss the aspects of depressing malls. Xinyuan clued us in to it by saying that Coro had a secondhandbook shop, and then I told Crystal that the malls in Selegie (which are just as depressing) have secondhandbook shops too. She thought for awhile, and then agreed excitedly. Thus the first criterion became: HAS SECONDHANDBOOK SHOPS. The other thing that was rather plentiful in Selegie malls were LAN shops. Crystal agreed again and said something about a coffeeshop and emo people playing DotA. So we asked Xinyuan if Coro had a LAN shop, and she just looked rather puzzled and said no. THEN all of a sudden this group of guys whom we'd daoed previously suddenly erupted in lots of noise, and we looked over and saw them huddled over a PSP. Therefore the second criterion was fufillied: GAMERS, kind of. Shall not bore you with the rest of our journey of discovery. Except that criteria 3 and 4 are, respectively, YELLOW LIGHT and LOW CEILING. Ah, the good old days of Rosyth, where we had fries from the coffeeshop and explored Hougang Point to pass the time before house practice. (:

I shall now demonstrate to you, in a series of photos, why Team 5 stood no chance against EXCO during the Captain's Ball match during Camp Crew. ... Aww, screw it. Posting up pictures would require incessant clicking of the mouse and scrolling down through all the 717 pictures of Camp Crew, many of which feature me looking stupid as usual. And frankly I don't have a mad desire to see my stupid face over and over again, or click the down button madly, cos my scroll wheel's spoilt. Plus I'm not feeling witty today. I shall just have to make do with criticising the romantic ramblings of lovesick couples. And then swear to myself that in the unlikely even that I ever fall in love, I shall not become quite so mindless and soppy. Perhaps it's the ulcer in my throat that is making me quite so crabby. In any case, nada on the funny post front today. I am going to devote the rest of my day to being absolutely crabby. My mum is writing appraisals and for some reason, my progress report is lying open on the table next to her. I suspect she's using it for reference. I dunno why though.

japan trip :O
Monday, December 01, 2008
My mum accosted me while I was secretly counting the money in my piggybank and gave me 5000 yen :D Apparently I'm going to be her maid service in Japan, in exchange for that money. ): The exchange rate now is 62.5 yen to 1 SGD, and she says I have to convert all the prices in Japan for her. Dividing stuff by 62.5 is worth wayyyy more than 5000 yen, in my opinion. Especially since I have to do it mentally. But when I told my mum that, she said that with all the money she's shelled out for my abacus education since I was 6 or so had better have been put to good use. Whoopee. But I figure if I just go with the conversion rate of 1000yen = 16SGD, it makes it much more easier. It is infinitely easier to multiply numbers by 16 than dividing them by 62.5. However, my mum, being an old school purist, thinks that dividing by 62.5 is easier than dividing by 1000 and then multiplying by 16, because it's one step not two. I disproved that easily by asking her to divide 35,000yen (the price of a bag she's eyeing) by 62.5. But she cheated. She took out her calculator which she'd kept hidden in her bag and keyed in the numbers. Anyway enough of the money talk. Apparently, I also have to be her translator. :O Die. Okay I have to go practise saying stuff like "I want a bowl of ramen please" and stuff like "Excuse me, where's the toilet?" because I figure reading recipes (as taught in chapter 12!) won't be much use there. Unless of course, we all get attacked by a giant carrot who's going to eat us all up if we don't defend ourselves by chopping it up and making carrot soup. Well, like Crystal said, those carrots ARE getting pretty big. Maybe I'll revise that just in case. And bring my textbooks along, so I can flip them open and search frantically for the answer in case I don't know what to say.
