I got recommended for some CHAOS thing in Chemistry by my Bio teacher.
When I pointed out that something felt a little odd with that to Mr Lim, who was the bearer of bad news, he simply waved it aside.
So, yay, I now get to write a report about, um, the mechanism of photochemical water splitting reactions to be handed in by Friday :)
Well at least it means Mrs Lee thinks highly of my abilities? :D
Or this is revenge for my asking stupid questions in class. Although I'd have pegged Ms Siow to kill me first, considering it's in her class that I really ask the most annoying questions. I think the last one I asked her was whether antimatter particles like antielectrons have charge. But I really wanted to know!
I don't think I'd like to be a teacher. People like me asking me questions would just about kill me. I'd probably strangle myself if I were a teacher and I were my student.
I don't make sense, do I?
So anyway, I gamely agreed to do the report because I thought I'd have loads of free time during this week. But then I just realised that Google fails when it comes to photochemical water splitting reactions, because it just throws up "scholarly articles" that go something like: "the photochemical reverse reaction of the voltaic hydrorubidium cell is modelled with an inverse Gaussian curve to the nanodiameter of the Planck length found in monopedal bipeds."
Anyway to keep myself awake and alert and boost brain function, I have been drinking tea by the gallon and guzzling chocolate, and sacrificing virgin lambs on the altar. Anything for a brainpower boost, right? I am THIS close to eating raw sugar.
And I'm listening to Sorry Sorry because once you ignore the annoying SORRY SORRY SORRY x10000 part it actually has a very, um, energising beat.
Which reminds me: Thanks to all the people who came to my party :) You guys were wonderful and I love all your presents. Although I do have a question: Why do people keep giving me stuffed pigs? I don't actually look like this, right?:
...please tell me I'm reading too much into it. And that I'm really just as "slender", I quote Xinyuan, as our other teacher IC. (We were looking at their photos today and in his photo he looks emancipated)
Okay yeah well I just wanted a reason to put that picture there. So now that I've fulfilled my mission I shall go back to reading Simple English wiki about photochemical water splitting.

OHMYGOSH GLENDON GOT FACEBOOK!
I got a friend request from someone called "Tralalalla Andla", and I was going to click ignore and send back a scathing message about having loser nicknames (speaking of which, I once got a friend request from some idiot who called himself "Archileissostupid Knowsthatgirlsarestupid". Perhaps someone would like to acquaint himself with the concept of this: " ", a SPACE. It helps, you know, instead of sounding like a dipshit) but I was hippy and happy and so I clicked "accept". I figured I could always post something mean on Tralala's wall later and delete, if the need arose.
But I was busy with the RALA LJ assignment, so I didn't do anything.
Until a while later, I was clicking around aimlessly on Facebook, and I decided to find out who the lameass who called himself Tralala was. And then I clicked on the link, and saw stuff that read like "Tralala has been tagged in a photo!" with this little picture of Glendon's huge grin under it.
I NEVER THOUGHT HE WOULD GET FACEBOOK OKAY.
Glendon if you see this I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!
But anyway, I hope he doesn't, because I want to whine about how unfair it is that he's probably taller than me already, and I really want to grow taller but I can't. So now I am short and annoying. To make up for it, I shall wear 3 and a half inch heels everywhere I go and teeter all around, and make people wait for me to hobble and catch up with them.
And I saw Glendon at third lang the other day. I don't think he saw me though; he was walking very purposefully, with his phone stuck to his ear, and looking generally angry. I'll bet it's still his sibeh hi-tec phone :D

I read today's xkcd comic and smiled. It would be pretty good to do that during that brief period of mindless worrying just before a pandemic. "Hey, did you know that they've discovered that having dreams about schoolwork is a symptom of swine flu? What was that nightmare you were talking about the other day?"
But yeah, lately I've been having dreams about school and they are by no means good dreams.
I dreamt that SA day on Monday was actually LIT and Chem, not English and Chem. And the stuff that was being tested was Merchant of Venice, and it was open book and to pass all you had to do was copy out this specific passage from the book, but since I didn't know it was Lit I hadn't brought the book and so I failed it like crap.
I was so freaked out the first thing I did when I woke up was to check what exams there were on Monday. And yes, it's English, for those of you who are thinking of doing that too.
And then there was this other nightmare I had about doing morning assembly duty for AV, and I pressed the play button for the CD player but it started playing the Macarena (Crystal, Ms Ong wants it!) instead of Majulah Singapura, and then I quickly put in the correct disc but then it wouldn't play at all, and Mr Lee and Mr Lim were breathing down my neck. It was horrible.
...so I spend a little too much time in school. SO?!
Anyway. I have heard from Crystal that many people actually secretly stalk my blog. So I went to check my statcounter, and it's true-- an average of 36 people read my blog per day! Sure, it's not in the range of xiaxue (Ms Picca made a really classic face when Crystal mentioned in passing that she reads xiaxue) but still. 36 people. Do I even KNOW 36 people?
But anyway. Thanks to statcounter, I know who they are. I know every little detail of their lives. I know what they did last summer, the summer before, and the summer before that. And so, I command you all to tag, or I shall be forced to reveal the innermost details of your summers on my blog. Muahahaha.
Oh I was reading a Cory Doctorow book in the library today, and I came across this amazing paragraph:
"If you've never programmed a computer, you should. There's nothing like it in the whole world. When you program a computer, it does exactly what you tell it to do. It's like designing and machine--any machine, like a car, like a faucet, like a gas hinge for a door-- using math and instructions. It's awesome in the truest sense: it can fill you with awe.
A computer is the most complicated machine you'll eve use. It's made of billions of microminiaturized transistors that can be configured to run any program you can imagine. But when you sit down at the keyboard and write a line of code, those transistors do what you tell them to. ...
Even if you only write code for one day, one afternoon, you have to do it."
If that were on Facebook, I would "like" it. I was just trying to explain to my mum the other day WHY I code. She thinks it's just one of my weird idiosyncrasies or that it's just a phase. But yeah, it's good to know that someone else out there feels the exact same way that I do about code. I have become an instant Doctorow convert.
Tomorrow!

Sigh D: I'm still horribly confused as to which JC to go to. RJC isn't allowing me to access its webpage, because it is apparently being used as an intermediary to spread trojans. And I know Macs are supposedly virus-proof, but I'm not taking any chances.
Should I apply for HP? But then again if I go for HP I'd be better off in HC wouldn't I.
ARGH.
Well if there's one thing I know it's that I'm probably not going to take art in JC. I just realised that I have no aptitude for it and I obviously shouldn't go on in a deathward spiral.
There are apparently 9 people online. It's low, even for a day before an exam.

I know this is totally random, but I wish Math Dept would stop posting stuff on inet that says "PRESS RELEASE: MATH SA1"
Because seriously, do you think the press would really be interested in that? It must be a really, really, REALLY slow news day if they have to resort to reporting on a certain school's Math exams.
And please, it's hardly anything press-release worthy. SO GET OVER YOURSELF. Math just isn't scandalous enough or exciting enough to get put in the news.
Now on to do my wonderfully exciting 4 practice papers for Chinese! Hooray!

I SAW A ZOMBIE THAT DAY!!!! Okay, fine-- an anorexic girl, but they're about as close to zombies as you can get. I was walking to J8, and there was this horribly stick thin girl walking in front of me, wearing leggings and a really tight blouse that I guess was supposed to show off her curves, but seeing how she was practically emancipated just showed off her ribs.
And seeing as she probably hadn't eaten for 3 years, she obviously didn't have enough energy to lift her legs to walk, so she was dragging her feet along the ground.
If she had just opened her mouth and groaned "Braaaaiiiinzzzzzssxxz" she'd have been casted in a zombie movie already.

Last day of SCMUN; but I couldn't go for D&D sigh.
Ah well. We passed a reso today, and just to pass time the new China delegate (Um, I forgot his name, but he has the most amazingly pretty eyelashes! It's so unfair.)
The new China delegate looked through the whole resolution and picked out every single instance of things like that, and brought them up stating that he would be against the reso unless that was corrected.
... well, it was funny when he said it.
Yeah then we declared war on USA for not taking a serious stand and not talking about protection of media AT ALL! (Inside joke: USA ponned today) The rest of the nuclear club then nuked USA. We were bored, because we were speedy and finished both our topics, and wanted to piss off the other councils, since what SC does apparently impacts every other council. :)
Anyway after lunch we went swinging! It was awesome, because Kinnari had acquired a manslave in the form of the DPRK GA1 delegate. Kidding about the manslave bit la. He was just a very nice guy who was willing to push us on the swing so we didn't have to push ourselves :D Yay! :D Thanks, DPRK delegate!
And then we, um, talked about our mutual acquaintances. Apparently Sherman is famous in Kinnari's class O:
Anyway swinging is loads more fun when you don't have to push yourselves.
I got voted delegate most likely to start WW3. ._. I don't understand why! D: I mean, just because you talk about nuking some other country once. Um, okay, twice. Or maybe a little more than that.
Hottest female delegate in our council obviously went to the only guy present, since USA ponned. LOL.

Crisis today wasn't fun. The topic was okayish; GM food provided by the USA had resulted in genetic defects in newborns. No one had a sense of humour, sigh. I mean, before that, all the members in our council were planning to nuke US simultaneously, and be all "HAH you cannot nuke back because I nuke your nukes" and stuff, but suddenly everyone became damn peaceloving during the crisis.
And then we passed notes (on a sidenote, I love passing notes! I have almost perfected that somewhat cocky and professional way of thrusting notes up into the air between 2 fingers. I've been practising loads after watching the China delegate in my council do it with three notes at the same time) to many countries, all of whom said they were with us on nuking US, but then suddenly became peaceloving.
And we were trying to be funny, and not say outright that we were going to nuke US, but rather, ahem, correct the genetic transformation that occurred as a result of its GM food by exposure to radioactivity, cough. BUT NO ONE GOT THE JOKE. They wrote back with stuff like "How can you be sure there won't be greater gene deterioration?" BAH. NO SENSE OF HUMOUR.
The front part was funny though, when China went up to give its opening address. It started off talking about how appalling the situation was, and then delved right into blaming USA's capitalist system and everything. Capitalist dogs, etc.
Then DPRK went up immediately after, and launched into another tirade about the capitalist pigs from USA. It was illogical, made no sense, and angsty, which made it awesomely funny.
Then Germany went up, said that it didn't blame USA, and instead it was China and DPRK who had been sabotaging the GM food products provided by the USA, and contaminating them so that they became toxic. And it wrote back to our "want to nuke anot" note with "We don't mind nuking USA, but can we get China and DPRK as well?"
--
Our council, being small and devoid of outrightly Communist sentiments (well, except China and Russia, but Russia's quite okay with all our resolutions and China... sleeps through the debates) has nearly finished both issues and so has been trying to find ways and means to inject humour into the debate without getting caught by the chairs.
USA has used 10 song quotes in his speeches so far. I'm surprised the chairs haven't issued a gag order yet.

Gratz RI and RJC teams! You guys are damn awesome I can't wait to join RJICC next year.
And somehow I still can't figure out WHY Hubert isn't the top secondary school contestant, seeing as he's overall top and he's only Sec 4. Hmph.
Anyway, I don't celebrate Lent (or observe it, if it's not meant to be celebrated) but for those of you who do,
Happy rickrolled Lent :)

Fengshan market learning journey today was, if nothing, delicious.
We were supposed to walk around and "absorb the atmosphere", but seeing as most of us grew up romping around in wet markets (I certainly did; every other Sunday at least. I'd tiptoe carefully around the wet bits and count the splotches of pig blood up the stairs) we skipped that bit. Xinyuan niaoed a bit about the general atmosphere being "richer" than the wet market in Jurong, simply because everything cost about 20c more in Bedok than Jurong. Odd.
Anyway, apparently, all of my extended family frequents Fengshan market! I was buying sugarcane juice with Xinyuan, and I turned around to see my grand-aunt. So obviously after the initial shock, I was respectful and said "HELLO!" She didn't recognise me at first; because I don't often go sashaying around in my school uniform when I visit relatives, and I'm usually hanging around my mum. Then she remembered, and asked me how my mum was and stuff like that.
So I called my mum to tell her that I saw my grand-aunt, and she was quite shocked because my grand-aunt lives in Kallang, which isn't very near Bedok. And she lives opposite the Old Airport Road market, which makes it a complete waste of time for her to go all the way to Kallang for sugarcane juice. Although the sugarcane was pretty good. But I guess if you're old, you have loads of time to kill.
After that, we walked around and took some photos. I felt so annoyingly alien.
And then, I turned around and saw my aunt, cousin, cousin-in-law, and their maid.
PLEASE. 5 PEOPLE FROM MY EXTERNAL FAMILY IN ONE DAY. Less than that, actually. A couple of hours. Now why don't I have luck like that with the jokers in gin rummy?

Fengshan market, which is where we are supposed to go to for Lit LJ tomorrow, is un-Googleable.
Fengshan market is also un-StreetDirectory.com-able.
Fengshan market also does not show up on Google Earth.
So as far as I'm concerned, FENGSHAN MARKET DOES NOT EXIST.
Does anyone have an iPhone which I can borrow? I think they have an app or something for situations like this, right?
And NO, I am not overly-reliant on technology.

I woke up in the morning, stretched and took a lovely deep breath like you always see those nightgown-clad heroines do on TV.
Except instead of smelling the fresh scent of roses coming from the beautiful bouquet that the protagonist's boyfriend placed next to her bed while she was asleep, I smelt the lovely scent of, um, PM10, or whatever the pollutant of the day is.
So my eyes are dry, my throat is dry-er, and no matter how much I try my nose won't stay dry.
The PSI is said to be 53, but I think they've dropped an extra digit somewhere, because the last time the haze was in 3 digits IT SMELT JUST LIKE THIS.
I am currently hiding in the toilet (because it has the smallest window, and I've closed that too) and I CAN STILL SMELL THE HAZE. It creeps in through other windows, I am sure, and creeps around my house. Sometimes when I turn my head really fast, to catch it, it is there!
Okay enough yellow wallpaper. It still smells bad, and it makes everything blurry. I hate the haze.

Mr Chew has the weirdest analogies this side of the Dec programming course.
I mean, his story about Pedra Branca goes:
"One day you go walking in the park, when you find a puppy! You ignore it, but the puppy follows you. It likes you. You look around, but no one seems to own this puppy. So you take the puppy home.
"You feed this puppy, and buy it toys, and toilet train it. You also put up signs, advertising to the neighbourhood that you have found a lost puppy. But no one answers. So you decide to keep this puppy. You take it on walks around the neighbourhood everyday. You make sure everyone knows this is Your Puppy. You make it wear a T-shirt that says 'My Puppy'.
"So one day, you bring your puppy out on a walk and you meet your neighbour. And you tell him, 'Look at my puppy!' He looks at it, and then says, 'That's MY puppy.' He shows you baby photos of the puppy. He shows you the pedigree cert of the puppy. He wants to take the puppy back. "
Okay the rest isn't important, but well. Maybe you had to be there to get it.
And he invented a new word today: "De-bus". As in get off the bus. Heh.

I HATE HAVING FREE TIME.
I've been cramming so much during NOI, so now that NOI's over, I have too much free time with nothing to do.

I need to get a life.

Responsibility sucks.
I mean, sure, it's cool to have all the control room keys, but it's not so fun when the teachers keep reminding you about all the responsibilities you now have on your hands, with perfectly angelic smiles. And I swear, Mr Lim has become Mr Lee the second. He learns absolutely fast.
Mr Lee: "Oh btw Vic, keep the keys. You'll need them tomorrow." Me: "SWEET. Thanks." Mr Lee: "Just make sure everything's locked up. Because we don't want anyone to get in." Me: "Yup, I locked everything just now." Mr Lee: "Aiya it's okay I'm not really worried. What's the worst that could happen? You lose tens of thousands of dollars of equipment only. No big deal." Me: "..." Mr Lee: "Yeah what! At most 20 or 30 thousand only. :)"
On an unrelated sidenote, I hate richkids.
Me: "I CAN'T PAY FOR TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF EQUIPMENT LOSS! CAN YOU KEEP THE KEYS?" Mr Lim: "Don't worry. If anything happens, it'll still be us who has to foot the bill for the equipment." Me: "Oh." Mr Lim: "But I have a baby at home, who's completely dependent on my income. And Mr Lee has two kids. Two young kids. :)"
If I loses these keys, I shall be held responsible for the lives of two young children and a baby (who I can't even doubt exists because I've seen photos, and a short video, in which it moves) and I shall never be able to live it down.
Shit I hope I don't lose these keys.
Anyway in addition to that, I have to solo MFA talk tomorrow! Weehee! That means managing all 4 mics, the lights, AND take a video of the event. WHAT FUN.

I can't stop gushing about RI ICC (or CSS, whatever it's called now)
I WANT TO JOIN THEM WHEN I GO TO JC!!!!!!!
Sigh everyone there is like hyperpro and can talk about things like Bellman Ford without breaking a sweat. When people try talking to me about Bellman Ford, I blink, and then I panic, and then I break a fire alarm or scream "LOOK A GIANT CARROT" and run the hell out of there.
And I think they are all awesome cool.
I saw a guy wearing lime green shoes. Oh please how can you not fangirl over someone who actually dares to wear green sneakers. Although lime green isn't exactly a school colour, but still. Green sneakers!!!

NOI!!!! D:
I went there at 12 and had Burger King, like last year, except this time I didn't have anyone to wait for. BK is awesome. I am totally going to eat there more from now on.
After that I went to COM1, and saw the whole RI team. I recognised some of them, and I think some of them recognised me, but I didn't really know what to say to them, so I hoboed in a corner for a while until their teacher IC came. I like their teacher IC. She reminds me of Tongtong. And she was really nice to me too; she asked me to go over and hang out with them so we'd be this gargantuan Raffles team. (Or however much bigger the addition of 1 person can get) And she asked me to join ICC next year, whee. I feel loved.
Anyway, Josie came as well! O: Talked to him heh. He was very excited about the free bag, which was surprisingly much nicer than last year's. I quote: "I now have two Crumpler-like bags!" Not like the NOI bag was very crumpler-like at all; it was essentially a bag with a cover. That, however, appears to be Josie's definition of a "crumpler-like bag". Hilarious.
I was kaypohing the stacks of bags, and I saw Sherman's name! Which was really really REALLY odd, because I'd asked him previously if he was going and he said he couldn't come because he had tests or examinations or something. I told that to Josie, and he was all "Yeah! Got examination what! NOI lor!!!" (Can't stand him lol he's still so lame) but Sherman didn't come after all ._. A bit odd leh to field someone you KNOW can't come.
The nice teacher herded us all into the seminar room, and we sat down and crapped and discussed cheem programming stuff. I was copying code from Josie, and trying to read their NOI booklet things. I finally realise how behind I am, having not trained with them forever. They had all these booklets filled with algos and stuff which I hadn't heard of before (I mean, I'd heard of the common ones like Dijkstra and Bellman-Ford, but they had all these like Floyd-Warshall and Prim's and so on.)
But Kah Khang was totally nice, and he offered to photocopy a stack at me at the bookstore, and so we ran and ran and ran across a whole lot of shortcuts I didn't even know existed, only to get there when the bookstore was just closing D: We ran around to the OTHER bookstore, but the photocopy lady had left D:
So we wheedled, and begged, and generally looked pitiful until the counter lady finally relented and took pity on us and photocopied a stack of stuff for me from her own personal photocopier :) Yay! :D
Then Kah Khang and Josie very nicely explained everything to me :) I can't wait to go to RJ ICC; I'll have such awesome seniors and batchmates. Although Josie reminds me of those kiasu market aunties. Josie: "You're the only person from RGS?" Me: "Uh yeah obviously." Josie: "Why never send anyone else?" Me: "Cos no one knows how to code?" Josie: "Then just teach them how to output -1 for everything! Then come and get free bags la!"
The briefing was hilarious. Quote: "Same input must return the same output everytime." HAHAHA so funny la everyone was talking about putting in rand functions after that. Super cute. And I was listening to the NUS people behind, who were having a conversation that went: Person 1: "So what's the opposite of that?" Person 2: "Different input, same output!" (which was what I did la actually, but it's still funny)
People kept abusing the clarification system, which was cute. After finishing the questions I could do I spent the rest of my time reading the questions, which ranged from the really technical to stuff like "Is the food here yet?" and to a question about a meteorologist inventing a machine to predict weather patterns, "Is the meteorologist male?"
Did 2 questions. :/

Today during assembly the RALit juniors were giving some assembly talk. I didn't really pay attention, at least until the Taboo bits. I discovered that I am a genius at Taboo. I can describe all sorts of nonsense in weird ways. And Ningxin can guess what it is, so I must be good :) Anyway, the 09-11 team was awesome and they guessed everything super fast, but that was because they were the first team to realise that the screen was translucent and although they were supposed to be standing behind it so they couldn't see what's on it, they could actually turn around to see what was being projected. So they got, like, a billion points. But they got stuck at "Edward Hyde", although that was partly because they hadn't figured out how to cheat yet. I had my own version, which Ningxin totally appreciated. It was something like "That sparkly vampire dude in Twilight. Blank and seek." And after that, there was this picture of Count Dracula, and again the people standing behind were supposed to guess what it was, and Ningxin said something like "Edward Cullen's grandfather." Mr Lim: "Edward Cullen? Who's [sic] she?" We all gaped at Mr Lim, because in this day and age, it is SO rare to find someone who still doesn't know who Edward Cullen is. AND he teaches in a girls' school. So we tried to jolt his memory, in the hopes that he'd just forgotten for a minute. "Like, Twilight? Sparkly vampire?" Nada. We drew a blank. So we agreed that Mr Lim would have to do extra reading to catch up to the life in a girls' school. But knowing that he has his baby and all to look after, we decided to help him! So, every assembly block hereon shall be a Read-To-Me-ester Lim session, where we'll read aloud parts of Twilight to him every day! Thus he can relax while learning more about RGS culture at the same time! (This is starting to sound like one of those lame excursion advertisements) I am very excited about this. I shall finally see how males react to descriptions of Edward Cullen's sparkly white skin and finely-toned chest.

During PE we were playing floorball, and it was horribly hot and everyone was sweaty and stinky. And then Mr Ng told us to move up to the tennis courts to simulate a real life floorball pitch (it has walls so the ball can bounce back or something) and we all groaned because we'd be that much nearer to the sun. So Denise came up with a wonderful idea: A sacrifice to the sun god! Although I pointed out that it ought to be to the rain god, because if you sacrifice to the sun god what's going to happen? It gets even more bloody hot? No thanks man. So we did a rain dance! Or at least we tried to, and Ariel had some haka chant to go along with it. We were supposed to sacrifice Mr Ng, but he did a stupid dance with the floorball stick and flatly refused to be sacrificed. But hey, approximately 10 hours on, the rain god has acceded! Well, not really. Denise said it did, so it's probably raining on her side, but on my side of the island it's just cloudy. Which is still better than nothing, because the haze stinks like shit.

Yesterday, Cherylchan came back for the combined EXCO meeting. Although Mr Lee didn't get to see her because he was at the hospital or something, and Mr Lim was kind of apprehensive (he blinked rapidly when I told him that Cheryl was coming back)
So anyway after the combined EXCO meeting, we hung around outside the CLC where Mr Nuh was talking to Mr Jalleh, and Cheryl started having this little debate with herself whether or not she ought to go say hi to zhanglaoshi. I think she did, in the end. And then Mrs Shirley Tan saw her, and she started as if to walk over, and Cheryl freaked out because she thought Mrs Tan was going to come and talk to her. Mrs Tan walked over, smiled and said "hello, girls." and then promptly walked off. Then Cheryl got sad because Mrs Tan didn't talk to her. -_-
After that we bugged Mr Nuh to show us the studio, where it was all cool and nice. And then Cheryl bugged me to show her our new parade square system, because the last time she came back she wasn't with me and thus didn't have all access.
So I said okay, and Ningxin (who was tagging along as well) and I brought her down to introduce her to our new scary system.
We introduced her to the wireless mics and awesome 5-disc CD player, when she suddenly pointed to the tape deck and said "Who uses this?!" We admitted we didn't know, because it IS after all a new system and we don't know much about it. So then she was all "If no one's using it, then turn it off la!"
And then she stretched out her finger and pushed the power button.
And then this horrible annoying shrill wailing sound started up, and we all instantly went "oh shit." Because it wasn't just a horribly annoying shrill wailing sound, it was one of those horrible annoying shrill wailing sounds that sets off the part of the brain that tells you to get the hell out of there.
But of course, being stupid, we didn't know what it was, and thought it was some machine fault that Cheryl set off, and that it would shut up in a while. So we stood there, and blinked helplessly. We tried pressing some buttons, but they did nothing except make some suspicious light that said "record on" come on, and we decided not to do anything in case something blew up, or more horribly annoying shrill wailing sounds started.
So we quickly called Mr Nuh. After a bit of pushing blame, and arguing who was to call Mr Nuh, we made Ningxin do it. So she took out her handphone, dialled his number, and went all: "Hello Mr Nuh? Help."
It would have been kind of funny if we weren't already panicking over the stupid horribly annoying shrill wailing sound, which stopped for a bit then started up immediately again.
While waiting for Mr Nuh to come back and "help", Ningxin discovered this button which said "buzzer silence". We decided that we couldn't get into more trouble already, and we pressed it, and suddenly all went silent. We were all totally relieved for awhile until we realised that there were all these suspicious buttons with words like "cassette end" which wasn't lit up before, but was now.
Mr Nuh came back and we all totally fell over ourselves with relief, and made him troubleshoot. But he wasn't very familiar with the system either, and he told us it was all okay, which was why Ningxin and I actually found the guts to confess to Mr Lee our (ahem actually just Cheryl's) evil deeds.
He looked at us incredulously and said, "That was the evacuation failsafe alarm."
Apparently, if terrorists bomb the PA system area, and the cassette deck spoils or something, it'll be taken as some kind of bad thing and the evacuation alarm will sound. Which is to say, we set off the evacuation alarm by turning off the cassette deck.
But we quickly assured him that we managed to turn it off with minimal harm done, and no one had noticed anything apart from Ms Christina.
He looked at us even more incredulously and said, "That thing is connected to the civil defence force. Setting it off calls them to come over."
We nearly spontaneously combusted. It's one thing to set off an evacuation alarm, and another thing altogether to set off an evacuation alarm AND disturb the civil defence people. I thought he was going to slaughter the both of us, and if he didn't, surely the SCDF would.
Until he amended himself, and said, "Well, it COULD call them to come over. But apparently it didn't."
WHAT THE HELL LA. DAMN SCARY CAN.
Anyway I have totally learnt my lesson. No bringing Cheryl anywhere unless her hands are literally tied. Tsk.
