Bet you thought this was going to be witty. But in the interest of Internet safety and all that jazz,
I shall refrain from divulging highly sensitive information, including
age, telephone number, and weight. I guess a name is ok though; how else
will you know it's me? (But seriously, kids, don't talk to strange old men on the Internet)
I do adore owls though. But you already knew that so I guess that's ok too.
It is a very sad thing to note that half the Science Summer School Programmes are not open to me, even though they are mostly about Computer Science, for the simple reason that I do not take Physics.
(Humanz people, you are not allowed to whine because you wouldn't have joined the Summer School Programmes anyway LOL)
Hehe yesterday during the YDSP Congress, Dr Tan was talking to my mentor about how I might be doing a project with the school about Computer Security, and I quote: "The amazing thing is that she takes Bio!!!!"
):
In fact I think Bio is one of the most closely linked subjects to CS! You hear about Bioinformatics, but not Cheminformations or Phyinformatics. And I must say that for the 4 years of Physics lessons I had, nothing in class was ever really related to CS at all. Except maybe electricity, but the applications there were probably limited to learning how to turn on your computer.

For this week I am going to coldwar with Yuhui (HAHAHA SO FUN I haven't had a Cold War since P4, where Crystal and I used to do that all the time during Chinese lesson because we had nothing better to do) because he refused to walk to Marymount with me EVEN THOUGH he said he would after buying Lemon Tea. Hmph.
Luckily Weijie and Yang Terng were Nice People and walked to Marymount with me, after Weijie finished his midday snack of a plate of rice with black pepper chicken ._. And then I went to Nex and bought a pretty cake for Papa, which he found immediately when he came home and opened the fridge -_-
Crystal took home Mitchell's Epistemology book, and I looked up the other one he recommended in the library. It's super thick O: Sigh, I dunno when I'll ever finish reading Wealth of Nations; and then I'll have to read through Mitchell's book! Crystal claims it is around the size of a textbook, but thankfully she clarified it was like those secondary school textbooks and not, say, Campbell ._.
Campbell doubles up as a really useful exercise tool though; carrying it around trains your bicep muscles. And if you put it on your feet, you can do sit ups, using it as a weight. Everytime you sit up you can memorise a passage before lying down again.
I adore our formal uniform, but it is really sad that the only parts that belong to me are the blouse and the shoes. The blazer and skirt belong to the school and the tie belongs to Yuhui. ._. I don't think any of the girls in RJ actually own a proper tie; most of them just borrow one from nice people.
I had a nice tie today because Yuhui lent me a NEW tie, as opposed to his usual tie which was all ratty and disgusting and looked like it hadn't been untied in 2 years.
YDSP Congress was nice, the food was awesome- All YDSP events have awesome food like smoked salmon and of course the djfksjgksakldjgk awesomeeeeee eclairs.
I have no good ideas for PW. All the ones that are extremely easily quantifiable are quite boring and overused and I HAVE NO PASSION FOR THEM ):
This was one of the best birthdays I've had in, like, a year! Heh.
Mm thanks everyone for the birthday wishes on FB, and all those who smsed me (especially at 12:02, knowing that I wouldn't read it until "much later" HAHAHA)
I had like 3 cakes in the span of 24 hours-- 1 at the meeting with Mummy where AHEM some people tried to smash my face into the cake, but it kind of failed because I was too buff and only pitched forward by like 2cm before stopping automatically. (Y)
And then there was cake after an awesome dinner at Palm Beach with some of the extended family. Loads of camwhoring and experimenting with the nightshot function on my DSLR took place :D
But what I really want to post about is the last cake, which was from 12S03N for all the March babies, but it's closest to my birthday HAHAH :P I adore 12S03N to bits seriously everyone is super sweeeeeeet :D
After KI we were all going to take the lift down, and I was going to sneak away to the library to borrow Wealth of Nations, but I was caught by them and so I sheepishly explained that I was going to go to the library. And Celline actually SCREAMED. She was all "NOOOO YOU CANNOT GO TO THE LIBRARY WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!!!" And then she followed me all the way to the library, and allll the way down to make sure I got to the canteen.
And then we sat with the class, and Raga and Yu Hui and some other people came out carrying this super cute cake with CANDLES! As usual Wendy was being a pyromaniac and trying to light a whole bunch of matches at the same time. But because the candles were dripping wax all over the cake the March babies blew them out quickly and we celebrated for Griffles too!
We did our awesome tearing up of the box thing for plates again, and again we had one piece of cake leftov- I mean, saved specially for Ms Lim! So we called her, but she was out of school ): But apparently it didn't all go to waste, because she suddenly felt this sudden outpouring of love for our class and bought us all Toblerone and Mars! I got an extra 2/3 of a Toblerone from Yuhui, because I whined that "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!... yesterday."
I think this is such a shallow thought, but I really want a bf who will play beautiful songs on the piano for me! Like the Pathetique sonata, or amigawd Winter Wind.
I heard someone playing Pathetique while on the way to Math, and I nearly swooned on the spot. Kind of reminds me of how Yiwye and I spent a huge part of Bio RA enrichment listening to the strains of piano melody floating up from the first floor and looking dreamily out the window.
Incidentally, that was also Pathetique O:
So I shall put off learning Pathetique, so that in the event that I get a bf I can simply sit back and listen happily without picking up on all the wrong notes :P Of course if his piano is ownage then whatever la haha it doesn't matter, I shall just learn Pathetique anyway :D
OMG based on the comments on my tagboard I revised the biochemistry view of relationships! Sigh my dynamics is really bad; I ought to study it before Mr Lee kills me :X
Bond formation is EXOTHERMIC, so ΔH is negative. So technically ΔG can be negative, as long as TΔS is sufficiently small (|TΔS| < |ΔH|). Hence the reaction proceeds only at low temperatures.
So that means relationships are only energetically favourable if the person you are getting into a relationship with is cool enough. Go for cool guys, not hot guys :D
I HOPE this version is correct, but hey I was never very good at Physics anyway ):
--
Today during Chem prac there was a huge commotion at the other end of the lab, and everyone looked up to see Yu Hui triumphantly holding up a beaker with a bee trapped in it. Mr Lee was going to shout at everyone for being rowdy, but when he saw the bee he chuckled with evil mirth and suggested dripping acid on it ._. Anyway that's not really the point. I was quite impressed by the bee in the beaker and was almost ready to concede that Yu Hui was -somewhat- (and I use the term loosely lol) manly for managing to trap a bee.
Until he revealed that Hilary did it -____-
It seems that the girls in our class are more manly than the guys, hahah! Yiwye enjoys recounting the story of how she scammed Wendy that a squid toy would turn blue in water, and then promptly snatched it out and squirted him in the face while he was staring at it and anticipating the colour change.
Today I also had the most inspiring lesson of my life. I was falling asleep in Chem lecture despite liberal ingestion of Hichew, and I was desperate enough to look to the people next to me to wake me up.
So I turned to the left. Zhiyang.
Then I turned to the right, and Yu Hui was asleep. (Although not asleep enough- he hit me when I reached over to fill in a blank on his worksheet which he missed while supposedly sleeping -_-)
I just sat there doing the awkward turtle between two sleeping people while everyone down the row (who seemed very awake and hyper) laughed at my plight. I am very proud, though, to say that I DID NOT fall asleep :)
I think playing the piano makes your thumbs very flexible; all the better for doing the awkward turtle. My mum will be so pleased to know that 12 years of piano lessons didn't go to waste after all LOL.
Today in the library during first block we were bored, so we started talking about relationships in school. Being nerds, we decided not to consider relationships in their socioevolutionary context but rather from a biochemical point of view.
A little bit of background might be required for those who are neither science students or huge geeks: we decided to consider relationships from the point of view of Gibbs free energy, which determines whether a reaction can take place (ie is energetically favourable). The equation of Gibbs free energy is ΔG = ΔH - TΔS, where ΔH represents the enthalpy of the reaction. T and ΔS represent temperature and change in entropy of the universe respectively. With that in mind, we started our debate!
Now bond forming is endothermic-- energy is taken in when chemical bonds are formed and released when they are broken. Incidentally, this is what gives phosphate bonds its high energy yield when broken as mentioned a few posts ago. Since relationships are technically bond forming, we decided that they would be endothermic. Hence, ΔH would be positive for this reaction, as energy needs to be TAKEN IN for relationships to occur.
ΔS refers to the entropy of the universe, and since relationships increase the order of the universe by forming ordered pairs from what were previously lost and forever alone singles, ΔS is negative, as an increase in order implies a decrease in entropy.
The sad part, as Yu Hui quickly pointed out, is that T is measured in Kelvin, and hence can NEVER BE BELOW 0. Since T is always positive, TΔS is always negative, and hence ΔG=ΔH-TΔS will always be a positive number minus a negative number, which is a positive number! For any reaction to be energetically favourable, ΔG must be negative; hence a reaction with a positive ΔG (like relationships, lol) are definitely unfavourable.
The implication of this is that since relationships are energetically unfavourable, they should not proceed at any temperature, or no matter how hot the other party is. Sorry guys, the second law of thermodynamics decrees this, so looks like everyone's going to be forever alone! ):
I may not be a coffee addict, but that's neither here nor there. As I discovered today, I am -rather- dependent on tea, which is nearly as bad as coffee.
I first had a subconscious inkling when my eyes lit up with evil glee and I tried to grab Yuhui's tea away from him this morning. Thankfully he was nice and gracefully allowed me to drink some.
Anyway as if trying to snatch tea from someone isn't bad enough, I actually finished all his tea D: it was a reflex action i swear I wasn't actually trying to deprive him of tea :( sorry yuhui I will buy you bubble tea next time! Or let you play angry birds or something hahahaha.
I was gymming- yes, I was- today when I heard someone trill "viiiiic!" When I turned in the direction of said trill, I saw Yiwye poking her head in the gym doors with a rather cheesy grin and behind her, half of our class ._.
Upon seeing my response to her call, Yiwye gasped and stumbled backward in shock, presumably due to the rarity of seeing a live Vic in the gym, actually exercising. She promptly turned around and announced to the half-class behind her: "oh my god! It's really Vic!"
My expressions of vehement indignance at her thoroughly unjustified- um, well, okay, I would be shocked to see me a gym too, but I don't count- reaction was met by staunch denial and an accusation that zhiyang was in fact the main culprit behind the identification of me. Said Yiwye, "zhiyang was the first one who asked if it was you! And he was like, cannot be la!"
So they got me to stand around in shame wearing my pe attire, which I am still not very comfortable in, waiting for zhiyang to come out of the toilet so that they could prove to, they claimed, a skeptical zhiyang that I truly existed in the gym. But that was soon disproved to be a false accusation of zhiyang, because as soon as he came out, and Yiwye crowed proudly "it's really Vic!", he just rolled his eyes and said in that zhiyang-matter-of-fact way: "told you so."
Seems like I really need to start shedding my gymophobic appearance. When I walked past Kester in pe attire and said hi, he didn't even respond- and he and Rachel have this uncanny ability to spot me from miles away and yell "vickypoooo", thereby humiliating me in front of everyone within hearing radius.
On the bright side, my mum is totally supportive of my efforts to become fit for archery. She is delighted to see me slowly morph into a buff female terminator, except that as all adults do she mangles youth lingo so that "buff" becomes "puff". It is rather demoralizing when people make reference to how "puff" you are.
My econs teacher would be pleased to know that I have found econs in the strangest of places- in Campbell Reece, otherwise affectionately known as the bible to most supermugger bio students.
The financial babble starts somewhere in chapter 9, where the "energy investment phase" and "energy payoff phase" is introduced. A paragraph introducing glycolysis sounds more like something you'd find in a financial investment pamphlet:
"during the energy investment phase, the cell actually spends ATP. This investment is repaid with dividends during the energy payoff phase."
Blah blah blah, some description of glycolysis with frightfully long names- phosphofructokinase anyone?- and again we have more financial pamphlet information:
"recall that 2 ATP were invested to get sugar ready for splitting; this ATP debt has now been repaid."
And finally, the icing on the cake- absolute figures! "glycolysis has repaid the ATP investment with 100% interest."
Now if you were not a bio student, or a particularly inattentive bio student, all that sounds creepily like financial stuff that you always read about in the papers.
And if you think about it, there are more allusions to the financial world in other parts of bio too: phosphate BONDS have a really high YIELD.
Some biological terms are even convoluted enough to pass for company names. In future when my mum drags me along to her banker to "learn the value of money", I'm going to adopt my best pathological liar expression and start blabbering about Phosphate bonds with amazingly high yield, and Glycolysis which repays investments with 100% dividend payouts, and insist that I want to invest my life savings in Glycolysis.
Today he accidentally pulled out someone's arrow, and he craftily stuck it back in the x circle. Not that it had come from there originally, but hey as far as apologies go that's a pretty good one.
I want that kid to pull out all my arrows accidentally.
I woke up and it was raining, but still I bravely forged ahead to Serangoon MRT, looking out for my aunt who loves to make up scandals when she sees me with -gasp- guys! Despite waking up at 6:50 I was there by 7:15, thanks to my mum's car, and I was the first one there ^^
After Wendy and Celline arrived, we wondered how to get to ECP, and we realised a horrifying thing:
Wendy: "I came here to follow you!"
Me: "Um well I came here to follow Celline!"
Celline: "I THOUGHT YOU GUYS KNEW THE WAY."
So after a bit of stunned silence we smsed Yu Hui, who was SUPPOSED to meet us at Bedok to guide us there but pangsehed at the last minute, and was totally unhelpful anyway ): But since running around Serangoon MRT in circles is damn unproductive we decided to just go to Bedok and run around in circles there.
Luckily there was a sign at the bus interchange telling us how to get to ECP, and we followed it in great detail- okay well we were camwhoring on the bus so we missed a stop, but no worries we just walked back. I then discovered that it sucks to walk in the rain cos all sorts of debris gets washed up onto your flip flops, and when they rub against mosquito bites/eczema they hurt like crazy. Thankfully Celline the awesome organizer had a first aid kit, and since amongst the three of us I was most versed in first aid (Okay Wendy was, but all he offered to do was CPR which was not very necessary) I had to perform first aid on myself. FOREVER ALONE. D:
Yeah then we finally reached ECP, after trekking for what seemed like forever in the rain. We saw the sea, and we cheered- until we realised that we were supposed to be meeting at McDonalds, which was all the way in Area C. And we were in Area E. In total we walked about 3km plus I think, in the rain and dirt, just the three of us.
Upon reaching McDonalds, we ate-- well I ate, Celline drank milo, and Wendy ate TWO MEALS. Guys' infinite capacity for food still is a source of wonderment and awe for me, and not just because I'm trying to be prissy and exhibit Habits of Mind. I still sit in shocked silence and marvel whenever I see guys polish off a Hotcake with a slab of butter and one third of the hotcake syrup packet in about 3 bites. More camwhoring-- this time with Griffles, spectacles, and Celline's sarong. In fact we took so many camwhoring shots that I had to split the photos taken into 2 albums, and the first album doesn't even touch upon the BBQ.
Then we went out onto the beach to await the arrival of everyone else. Wendy buried Celline in the sand and we made him a nice dress out of the sarong, which he converted into some Tarzanesque wrap. Then I stole it to sit on, and I answered Celline's phone while she was otherwise incapacitated under a mound of sand. I answered every call and responded to "Hi Celline", and when I made calls I identified myself as Celline. No one caught me. I think I'm becoming a pathological liar. :P
Grace, Yeqi, Zhiyang and Shi Jie came soon after, and Zhiyang had a damn awesome story to tell about how he got to ECP.
"I saw the underpass, but it was like 10m long? So I decided not to go under it. Then I looked up and saw a lot of roads, and beyond that I saw the sea, so I was just like, whatever, and I decided to cross the expressway."
YAH CROSS THE EXPRESSWAY. And then soon after, he followed up with:
"I don't understand why the drivers in Singapore are all so bitchy, especially taxi drivers. I got honked by about 5 of them when I was crossing the expressway. I sidestepped one lor no need to get so pissed right?"
After that Yiwye and Nol came, safe and in one piece, not having followed Zhiyang's instructions to "just cross the highway and you'll get there" and Lingyue arrived too! We all rented bikes, and decided to cycle to Changi Village for lunch. Being a fail dunno-how-to-cycle-or-skate person I thought I would have to walk there and was making plans to ditch them all and cab there once I was far enough out of sight and then pretend I ran there like some dynamo, but Shi Jie very nicely agreed to tandem with me :) Thanks Shi Jie!
Cycling was quite fun haha although we stopped every now and then to wait for Celline, who was skating, and Wendy, who was following her. The rest sped ahead first. After a few bad starts we actually got quite good at starting and cycling, and stopping was simple enough. Another epic Zhiyang quote: "I can cycle, but I dunno how to start or stop. Actually I can start by running, so technically I can cycle. Should I cycle to Kallang to meet my OG?"
Wendy: "Yeah also can, but then you'll just cycle past them because you don't know how to stop."
Then halfway to Changi Village, there was an Accident! Celline tripped over a stone and for this horrible moment Wendy nearly ran over her head. Okay la he ran over her hair but I trust Wendy is good enough at cycling to avoid killing people. And then Shi Jie'd cut his ankle on the bike pedal, so we all stopped over at a tiny pavilion to do emergency first aid. Honestly I suck as a first aider la. I only spent one year in RCY, and most of my first aid experience comes from being unnaturally injury prone. After a bit- okay a LOT- of panicking, we washed their cuts with water from Wendy's bottle, and put antiseptic and plasters on it and called it a day. Then Yiwye called and we discovered that they were at FOOD Village, not CHANGI Village, and we turned back and went in the opposite direction -_-
After lunch we went back to return bikes, and I hobbled off to the toilets where I discovered splinters in my feet ): The thing about ECP is that it's so bloody big the toilets are about 3km apart from each other. So during the BBQ, instead of walking 1.5km to the toilets, most people just went in the bushes- LOL JK we are civilised people so we just held it in.
Yu Hui came then, and I got a plaster from him. And haha he was damn unsympathetic la he just handed me a plaster and said I owed him $2 ._. Siao la I didn't know you could charge for first aid I should have done that when I was de facto first aider for the AV Camp outing. But tsk tsk because he pangsehed us in the morning, we all had this huge grand plan to dao him, but which soon fell apart for some reason. Yiwye tried though, darling girl, and she took a photo of me with incredibly shitty composition just to avoid him. (Yu Hui explains the failure thus: "Cos I'm too cute to be daoed!" and we all promptly choked) His plasters were damn weird though, they were probably made of some weird astronaut glue or something. Because when I got home I tried to take it off, and I had to clean the sticky plaster glue stuff off with ORGANIC SOLVENT because even water, soap, and liberal scrubbing didn't do any good. (Teehee acetone, or nail polish remover, sounds much cooler when you call it "organic solvent".)
Speaking of coolness our class is really damn funny la hahah Yu Hui brought a Rubik's Cube and Shi Jie was teaching him how to cube. The only thing nerdier than cubing at a class outing is having a marathon Campbell mugging session. Which I would not actually put past our class; and it sounds like fun :D
Then the guys all started demonstrating their manliness by starting fires (fail, Grace was without a doubt the best at firestarting; she saved dying embers and rekindled them into huge blazes) and trying to open plastic bags of ice (fail, Yu Hui was foiled by a plastic bag which was easily ripped apart by Ryan) and breaking up huge blocks of ice (fail, I thought of bashing it with cans of Coke which was much more effective than prying it apart with one's bare fingers)
Halfway through the BBQ Yiwye grabbed me and was all "VIC! See that huge orange guy at the next pit? IS THAT JOSHUA NG?" I thought she was hallucinating because seriously, what were the odds, but OMG IT REALLY WAS HIM. And we were so excited we grabbed Wendy and the three of us ran through muddy fields (ew) to say hi to Joshng, who very nearly gayhugged Wendy but perhaps felt selfconscious. Aww. Joshng tried to borrow a frisbee from our class, but we forbade him from playing with Nol, because earlier Yiwye and I had been talking about ahem gay HC people, and although we thought we'd been very discreet already Nol suddenly turned around and demanded: "WHO'S GAY!" So if they started playing frisbee together, Nol might suddenly accuse Joshng of being gay, and then he'd come over and sit on us and we'd all die. ):
The fire was quite successful I guess, and Yu Hui tried to borrow spectacles from someone cos smoke is really irritating to the eyes. He was looking for a pair with degrees of 0 and 200, and Ryan kindly took off his pair and lent them to him. "Yah my degree is around there, try mine."
Yu Hui put them on, immediately started spluttering, and then took them off. Ryan smiled angelically (omg how can he be so tricksy with a face like that) and said: "Lol, jk, my degree is about 1000 in each eye. :D"
Yiwye and I prepared food for BBQing while Yu Hui decided to be a househusband and cook everything, nagging at everyone who tried and failed to live up to his househusbandy expectations. Yiwye is damn good at skewering crabsticks la hahaha her crabsticks had this ominous pointy skewer sticking out of the top, like some damn epic seafood surprise. You put it in your mouth, it pokes your throat, you start bleeding, SURPRISE! So she decided to be manly and skewer chicken wings with Ryan, while I helped to cook some of her seafood surprise skewers. Yay for once I was not useless at a BBQ!
After that half the class went to play night rugby, and Ryan took over the cooking and Shi Jie took over the fanning. Yeqi and Grace cooked odd stuff, like chocolate chicken wing (which smelt damn good, actually) and coke chicken wing. Ryan kindly cooked all the black pepper chicken chops, and we happily ate them, avoiding Yu Hui's half eaten one which he left in the food tray, and which we marked with a fork so that poor uncautious people wouldn't accidentally eat it and die. Yiwye cooked marshmallows in a tin foil packet with chocolate syrup, which sat on the grill and expanded dramatically, causing her to panic.
We told ghost stories, the few unsporty ones, and mostly they were just lame stories without much scare value. Telling Ryan the doll story over the grill was quite fail; you need to be really close to the person telling it, and you also need to maintain eye contact, which is really hard to do when half the chicken wings are on fire. Telling it to Wendy was much much much more successful he was damn freaked out halfway through the story and when I told him the ending he JUMPED. So adorable HAHAHAHAHA. Then we told the Perth room 102 story, which didn't work out so well because we kept interspersing it with random details like "Oh, we were watching a lesbian reality show, and then THE TV TURNED OFF!"
I love my class, seriously :D It feels like we've known each other forever already, whee. MOARE CLASS OUTINGS PLS :D
My blog has shot to new heights of infamy, thanks to Xinyuan's advertising of the fact that I am going to be Forever Alone.
Apparently my blog STILL will be forever alone, seeing as how only 2 new taggers have appeared -___-
Esther, I miss you during PE too! Everyone in my class just glares whenever I mention in passing that PE is my favourite subject. I've never really realised how hypnotising it is to watch people run rounds; now that I have no one to talk to I just sit at the side of the tracks and watch people's legs become increasingly jelly-like as they make their laps around the track.
There is class outing tomorrow! I am so excited, but I haven't finished my homework ): I really want to practise piano though. WHAT SHOULD I DO ARGH
RIP is dying. According to our nitrates test kit, reservoir water has a nitrate content of 12.5mg/l... no matter where it's from. I got suspicious and tested it with deionized water, which apparently has a nitrate content of 25mg/l, even higher than reservoir water! Does something smell fishy?
Speaking of fishy smells, there are distinctly malodorous scents coming from all directions-- right behind my table there's Jingjie's and Yu Hui's project, which involves bivalve and prawn shells, which STINK. And then they're experimenting with Fe2+, which oxidised overnight to rust; another not very fragrant compound.
Next to my bench, we have Clarisse and Shijie-- some project which involves snails in Cu2+ solution. All the snails have died, and dead things don't smell very good. (duh) Jiajin's project at the back of the lab also has dead organisms; he came storming into the lab this morning with Hubert, and then proclaimed in an ominous voice:
"THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE LAB'S WATER."
(And not just because it apparently contains shitloads of nitrates, bleh.)
Half his shrimps are dead, some taking on a rather pinkish hue reminiscent of cooked shrimps in omelettes, and those that aren't dead are damn hyper and trying to commit suicide by throwing themselves against the wall of the tank.
Add that to a marathon Plants-vs-Zombies session over lunch, and you have all the elements needed for a lab horror story. Imagine- a dark and stormy night, with Jiajin bursting in to say ominously: "THERE'S SOMETHING... SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WATER." And then a high-pitched scream pierces the air: "THE PRAWNS... THEY'RE ALIVEEEEEE."
Okay no that wouldn't work, because all the invertebrates being experimented upon are mostly dead, and the vertebrates experimenting on them are ready to expire from worry.
In fact the only horrifying thing in the lab right now is the stench, and Yu Hui when he starts singing Bad Romance in Chinese. Everything he says sounds like some pirated version straight from the bowels of China. There was "我要你的坏浪漫", and his favourite game: "生气的鸟". He drained my battery from 40% to 2% playing Angry Birds/Plants vs Zombies/Fruit Juice Tycoon (WHICH HE EPICFAILED AT HAHAHAHAHA) and then I was stuck at the void deck opposite my house for one hour because I had no umbrella and couldn't call my dad.
Luckily Joshng returned me Epistemology. He followed Yiwye into RJ right up to OpenLab, and everyone was glaring accusingly at the Hwachong giant. ): Poor boy! He walked from RJ to Bishan afterwards, and he said it was long. Damn now I feel quite bad D: I should treat him to the McSpicy I've owed him since Sec 2 someday.
This may be a little-known fact, but I am actually not bad at piano, especially when I practise.
I hardcore-d the last 2 weeks before my Grade 8 exam and managed to turn my failing grade into a 112, which is not a bad score for someone who only really started practising 2 weeks before the exam. Plus there was Speech Day and SAP coursework due at the same time, so it was like woah when I got my results.
And with like an hour of practise, I got the whole first page of Moonlight's 3rd movement fluent. My piano teacher was quite shocked cos like I usually take a month to finish a page, due to the sheer lack of practise.
But oh Chopin, your pieces are devillishly difficult! After half an hour of practice, I finally could play something that sounded quite like it should- and then I realised that I was only HALFWAY THROUGH THE FIRST BAR. My assignment for this week is 8 bars. I will never finish it.
There MUST be a smarter way to practise. Right now I'm doing the piano equivalent of hardcoding, and as the paragraph above testifies it is taking forever. ):
People I competed against in my first two NOIs are still competing, and they're getting better results than ever- and where am I? Not even competing. :/
And once again the best female medallist comes from Hwach. Ugh, I can't wait to start programming again so that I can learn loads and next year I MUST be the tfm. Sigh :/
Mmmm I must brighten up! There is still a whole year ahead to prepare. And on the bright side, it seems that the tradition of programming has not completely died out in RGS! One of the AV juniors is apparently a Bronze medallist this year! Even though you probably don't know I know, I am proud of you :)
Today during RA Bio Enrichment- which is really a cool long name for going through tutorials- Mdm Cross gave us corrections to our Lipids tutorial notes, one of which involved crossing out the following step in the test for lipids:
"3. Shake and observe for presence of emulsion."
Then someone asked: "Does this mean we don't need to observe the testtube?"
The profound implications of that missing statement struck us all. You know how they say you're not supposed to, uh, not follow instructions printed on the sheet? SO YOU CAN'T LOOK AT THE MIXTURE! The best you can do is add CuS04, and then SHIELD YOUR EYES FROM THE TESTTUBE, SCREAMING "ARRRRGHHHH!!!!! MY EYESSSSS!"
There is something about shouting "ARGHHHH!!!! MY EYESSSS!" and pretending to shield your eyes from the glare of an imaginary testtube full of lipids that is immensely satisfying.
Mdm Cross just pressed her lips together in an exasperated manner very reminiscent of Ms S. Ong, and said: "Well... observing is quite a given right...."
FAMOUS LAST WORDS, BEFORE LIPIDS IN A TESTTUBE BLIND YOU ALTOGETHER!
Eh crap la I should not be typing blogposts when I'm high. They start to sound like a crazy person, randomly shouting at random intervals. But hahahaha "ARGHHHH MY EYESSSSS!!!!!" is extremely funny hahahahhaha.
Anyway I have a damn awesome quote from Zhiyang:
Me: "Should we buy normal food for the BBQ? Like in case it, touchwood, rains?"
Now despite the huge influx of readings on gender inequality and gender perception (sorry my fault-- if I hadn't asked that question about sex vs gender perhaps we wouldn't have half as many readings HEH. But the quizzes were funny) I am not a militant feminist and I am not above sobbing loudly when hit to gain pity points!
Anyway the whole point of my story is that YU HUI PUNCHED ME T.T
And I wasn't even doing anything evil... much. OKAY I was laughing at him, but only because he said that avocados could be used to test for the presence of nitrates-- he supposedly meant Avogadro's Metal but that doesn't exist! And then I refused to tell him what it really was, and then he punched me.
And then I think we were both kinda stunned for awhile, because he'd just punched a girl and I'd just gotten punched.
Joshng is epic fail though; when I related this story to him he went in this deadpan Joshng tone: "Yesterday I elbowed a girl in the face." Okay la haha since most people's faces are at his elbow, it's not surprising.

Now if anyone in bio ra was proficient in canoeing, or kayaking, rip would be made about a thousand times easier. The people who know how to canoe or kayak would just happily speed down the reservoir with orders and a whole bunch of containers. And then everyone would be done with the water collection, instead of having to climb up crazily steep grass slopes.
The bushwalk path is going to be horrifying today. After we are done I am never coming back. Ever.
