SLA!
Thursday, April 30, 2009
YAHOOOOOOOOOOO! :D :D :D SINGAPORE LAW ACADEMY JOB POSTING CONFIRMED WHOOPEE! :) NOW ALL YOU MEANIES CAN'T SNATCH IT FROM ME, HAH! (Including that random person who blatantly tried to write her name in the space near my slot in the hopes of... I dunno, snatching it from me? Annoying. Can't they tell that all the damn spaces [in this case, 1 NIA HAHAHAH] have been filled?) In any case, I do hope the swine flu level doesn't rise above yellow. If it does, I'll have to join the ranks of the jobless with Cheryl ): I feel kinda bad for her, considering that she was the first one there but both her postings were taken away. Damn swine flu. It's taking away all our employment opportunities, dammit! Ah well. Whatever will be, will be. But I can still revel in the knowledge that I'VE GOTTEN THE SLA JOB POSTING FOR NOW :))))))

it is too hot
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
I tell you the weather is really starting to get on my nerves. It is scorching hot in the morning, and because for some reason or another, people staunchly believe that turning off the aircon and causing the earth to live for maybe another minute or so is much more important than making sure that everyone in the class can BREATHE. The heat somehow seems to thicken the air and I can barely breathe for the stuffiness. If I don't get asthma within this year, it'll be a miracle. And just add on, fans don't work. It doesn't help with the heat, and it's still as stuffy as ever. With the added bonus of mosquitoes flying in, of course. And when the heat gets really, really overboard, some kind, blessed soul will finally wrest control of the aircon remote and turn on the aircon. ...and then it'll start raining. ARGH. And then we have to face people making fallacies (doubtful cause) left right centre, and it gets me really mad and I really start feeling violent. I so have to work on anger management. --- Ah I just remembered something Denise said a long long time ago. I wanted to blog about it but uhh I either forgot or I was overloaded with homework. We were walking past the AV board and reading the same old stale stuff on it when... Denise: "OMG Cheryl's Chinese name is Yu Hui?" Xinyuan: "Uh, yeah. What did you think it was?" Denise: "Mali Chan." Damn classic. Oh well. We're having pizzas for RALA tomorrow! ^^

alliteration
Sunday, April 26, 2009
OMGWTF I was typing an email to AV when I realised that there is a really freaky bit of alliteration within EXCO. Like Cheryl the chairperson (On a sidenote, Mrs Lim: "CHAIR-RYL!" LOL Chem lessons.) and Vic the vicechairperson. O: Maybe it's a conspiracy O: Nevermind not important. I should stop spotting conspiracies in everything. I should also stop going on strikes. And what I should really, really, really start doing is start on my SAP PT. Did I mention I really like Depapepe? I think it's super duper cute can. I wish I could play the guitar like them. Not that I even can, but you know. I feel like eating sushi. This post is absolutely crap, but then again you already knew that.

lit fa
Saturday, April 25, 2009
Everytime I type "Victor" for my Lit FA, I automatically append "-ia" to the back. It was correctable at first, but after I looked back through 2 paragraphs I spotted at least 5 mentions of the mad scientist "Victoria". How annoying. Ah tag replies, then. Stitch: Yeah. Not fun one D: LOL and I don't live at 1600 pensylvannia avenue. That's dracula. Emily: Haha yeah of course I do :D My memory isn't that bad... yet. Haha! Jiaju: Thanks haha since when do I not study hard! I even do your homework for you *glares* Pearly: Will link soon! :D

innuendos
I nearly came this close to losing my scholarship yesterday. Okay this story starts from the Sumatran squall that blew through Singapore the night before, or something like that. Incidentally, it was so bloody strong that it blew all our windows open, even after we'd closed them 100%. Apparently, this Sumatran squall was so strong that it even made a crane snap in half. This very crane happened to be located at a condo near RGS, and that lead to a closing of half the road. Therefore we had to miss morning assembly, because cars were turning into RGS to turn back out of Anderson Road. Unfortunately, that very day we had PE. We always go for PE immediately after morning assembly, and thus we always get there earlier than Mr Ho. (On a sidenote, really, does anyone at all actually really take the starting time of lessons as "7:50" or "7:35"? Everyone just takes the start of the lesson as "immediately after morning assembly". But nevermind. Not important.) But this very morning, we went for PE at 7:50am, due to the lack of morning assembly as a time indicator. And... well, we were late. Very late, apparently. Mr Ho was spitting mad (:/) and our form teacher was there too. I dunno why but he was. And he was pissed at us too, and he told us he was going to book us all. And as he told me later during assembly, with individual TBDCs. TBDCs are, in a word, Bad. Very Bad. It means that if you get one more teacher's booking, whoops that's it, buhbye EESIS. And the margin of one teacher's booking within two years is waaaaaaaaaaay too close for comfort. Plus what's even more worrying is that if I lose my scholarship, I probably can't afford RGS's school fees. D: D: D: D: D: Ah well at least our form teacher's nice and whittled it down from individual TBDCs to a class booking. Damn close shave. -- AV cleanup was inneundo filled. Huichen found this table mikestand, and she was like "OMG! Remember what I used to do with this favourite mikestand of mine back in Sec 2?!" And then all the inneundos started flooding through. All the of below was said in a very suggestive tone, complete with nudge nudge, wink wink, raise eyebrows. 1. Huichen: "Ahha Wenjing remember you used to do it too? But Cherylchan could do it better! Gosh that sounds so wrong." Me: "WTF HUICHEN YOU AND CHERYLCHAN AND WENJING DID IT?" Huichen: ":D" 2. Wenjing: "You did it in public! In front of everyone! With everyone watching!" 3. Huichen: "You cannot do it with a mike." 4. Wenjing: "Haha yes and you'd make a lot of sounds while doing it!" Huichen: "Yah obviously cannot do it without making sounds what!" Among about a million more. After much persuasion we managed to convince them to demonstrate to us exactly what was this elusive "it" (I mean there were all those inneundos, but no one does it with mikestands, ew!) and they consented to an reenactment. Crystal and I sat in a corner and "emo-ed", as we did in Sec 1. Huichen picked up the mikestand and... ...sang something into it. LOL anticlimax. Such a relief though. Plus it actually fits, lol.

alliteration
Thursday, April 23, 2009
I lol-ed like mad when I saw this: "(random stuff) Cheers, Cheryl Chan, Chairperson of AVPA" SAY THAT 5 TIMES FAST :D Hm anyway today during SAP, Mr Wong was talking about this artist who's supposedly going to come and teach us how to glaze. Mr Wong: "He's worked with Ng Eng Tengs before." LT: -giggled- Mr Wong: "What? Did I say something wrong?" LT: -laughed- Mr Wong: "'Worked with' doesn't have any connotations what! It's not like I said he DID Ng Eng Teng or something!" And actually the only reason we were laughing was because he made it sound as though there was more than one Ng Eng Teng. Jap essay yesterday was cute. I transplanted my rather propoganda-ish SS essay directly into it. With translation la of course. Anyway ever since I got my lunchbox (the kind that keeps stuff warm! Awesome!) I feel extremely, extremely liberated. There is no describing the exhilaration one feels when one looks around at everyone else, eating cold, soggy and generally unappetizing food when you get to eat warm home cooked food, which is much much much less puke-inducing. It's like getting freed from the oppresion of school food. *cue angel choir* Ah during assembly yesterday or the day before, the senior management in our school decided that the weather didn't look too good ( D:) and therefore cancelled assembly. Christabella and I decided to prank Cheryl because as usual, she was late. So when Cheryl came in at 7:24am amidst the crowds of people walking back to class, we were like "Eh Cheryl, very early hor." She ignored this since we say that to her everyday. But then smart me had to go: "So early. You only reached here after assembly ended." and then she smacked me. Then we ran outside to keep the mikes, and we got trapped outside because the national anthem started playing. And like a bad drama serial, it started raining exactly as the second chorus started. Sigh. We were debating whether or not to stay outside until the rain stops (Mr Lee was against this, considering we had SS first block ahaha) or brave the rain. In the end Mr Lee led the way and we braved the rain. After we got inside Cheryl was coughing and sneezing and so we asked her what was wrong with her. She said she was sick. So I whispered to Christabella that before the end of the week, we'd all be as sick and as dead as her. About 5 minutes later she suddenly turned around and went: "WHATEVER!" in this very indignant tone. "I might be sick but my hearing's still good okay!" (super fast reaction.) Sigh time to write SS essay!

The name "consolation prize" really sucks. When I was young I thought that getting a consolation prize was pretty cool, because anything with the word "prize" in it is always cool, and besides, the meaning of any word longer than 6 letters escaped me then. But anyway they make it sound like "yeah, you suck, but hey don't cry! Aha! I know, I'll give you a consolation prize! *big fake cheery smile*" Why they can't just use less condescending terms like 4th, 5th, etc, I will never know. Lol from the above you probably can infer what I got for the art competition. Not bad la I wasn't expecting to get anything; honestly. That brings my total of accidental achievements this year to two. The consolation prize itself was pretty cool-- a stay at some resort thingum. Yay. The goodie bag they gave us was awesome too. It was more like Red Cross Food Aid than a goodie bag, to tell the truth. There were 2 packs of instant noodles, two squishy packs of Ribena, a normal pack of ribena, a pack of milo, a can drink, milo cereal, and assorted tissue goods (including a freaking tissue box). I think Xinyuan would have liked it. I wonder what ORA was like. I heard from Crys that they had gelato. I probably wouldn't have bought any anyway, considering that gelato is really really expensive outside, and at ORA they have a tendency to accidentally on purpose multiply the price by 238296802, and stuff that OSL sells often has an extra zero tacked on to the back of it. I bet it cost something like $30 per cup.

randall munroe
Friday, April 17, 2009
Credits to failblog.org for the picture. RANDALL. MUNROE. IS. MY. IDOL. He is, incidentally, the author of xkcd, which is a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math and language, which is where the comic on the back of my file is found. It's flaking off now due to overuse, though. I'll paint on another one maybe during the holidays. Gosh, if I were half as amusing as Randall Munroe I would totally... You know, he built a ball pool in his house. Which is so what I am going to do when I grow up. They had some festival in this park based on some coordinates in one of the older comics and it looked so cool. xkcd is awesomeness comicnified.

two ponytails better than one
Being selfish and forgetful creatures, Rachel, Crystal and I all didn't get each other birthday presents. But we easily rectified the solution by going out for a birthday lunch/neoprinting session together :D Hm I think our neoprinting skills are getting marginally better! I mean, our poses still suck but at least our decorating skills are improving :D I love our captions, yay! Hehe we had an afro one. Ah sigh I feel so very stoned. Argh I wanna wanna wanna go for ORA, but I have to go for some art competition ): It's going to be just like any other carnival, with overpriced food, overpriced souvenirs, and overpriced games, but you know, it's the whole atmosphere of it. I haven't gone for ORA since Sec 1. Next year it'll be back in RGS, which is totally small and boring and absolutely not fun. Maybe next year I'll break a personal record and join walkathon. But in any case I wish I could go for the RJC one. It'll be two more years until then, sigh! RJCCCCCCCCCC PLEASEEEEEEEE. One and a half more years! Even Keyun sympathisizes with me. RJC ICC PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE. Shit I don't think this post makes any sense at all, because I'm watching a documentary on apes- wait, it's apparently about China now, but IT WAS ABOUT APES THE LAST TIME I LOOKED I SWEAR IT WAS- and I still have to prepare for competition tomorrow ):

During Jap yesterday, Chengjing started complaining about her SMP project. I was tuning out (I was sleepy) until she mentioned something about Java programming. Then I actually started paying attention. She was saying something about the professor making them switch from Java to Labview or something because Java was apparently too tough. So I asked her about her project (while mentally coding a solution for it! I feel so pleased with myself!) and if programming was really considered under SMP. She looked at me, rolled her eyes and went: "Duh, computer SCIENCE." Ffffff-- But then again I wouldn't be able to find anyone in the same batch as me who can code D: Ah well. NSC today wasn't fun. Waiting to see the doctor still makes chills run down my spine. Then again, maybe it's the sub-zero degrees aircon. It was kinda cool to walk in again and see all those familiar nurses (since P6 manzxszxs!) but the thought of what strange new tests the doctor plans to subject me to this time is just terrifying. I finally got to see clinics other than Clinic F/G today though! Even though I've been going there for quite some time now the only places I've been to are the abovementioned clinic, the procedure suites (damn, not the posher Mandalay laser ones. Not really complaining though), the pharmacy and the canteen. Which is more like one food stall, but still. Anyway Crystal today broke the news to me that I might have a ghostly doppleganger. I didn't go to school in the morning because I was going to go to NSC, so I asked Xinyuan if she went for morning assembly. Xinyuan: "Yeah, I did-" Crystal: "Huh how could you not know?" Me: "I didn't go?" Crystal: "But I saw you talking to Xinyuan." Me: "WTF?" Crystal: "I did! I distinctly remember seeing you talking to Xinyuan this morning!" She then proposed the theory that 1. I have a ghostly twin (other than her) 2. Too disturbing to mention. Hm. Maybe she conjured up the image of me because she missed me too much :D Aw. Or maybe I secretly floated back to RGS in my dreams because I love AV too much. Aw.

typos
Wednesday, April 15, 2009
Best typo of the day: "When handling food during ORA, please wear proper attire and use thongs." I am somewhat glad I won't be going to ORA and eating there O: Sigh my desktop has died on me and it keeps shutting down. I've had to ask Minghan for help; and it's kind of hard to ask for help when you don't know half of what he's talking about. I am completely hopeless at hardware stuff. Gosh shame on me. Eh what's up with the new Channel 8 9pm drama man. Ping Pong Round. As usual, a drama about table tennis players (or circles, if the chinese is to be believed) somehow links back to sex and threatening with choppers. Some girl has apparently been coerced into almost doing it just to become a famous table tennis player. But as expected, she has a flashback while the guy conviniently just keeps kissing her shoulder and vows to stay pure. She seems to have mixed up virginity and soul, though. She just stormed out yelling about not selling her soul, but no one said doing it involved destroying your soul, per se. Class DC today was pretty okay. The questions were quite dumb though, and I didn't really know what to write (I mean, "write a paragraph about why you're in DC": "Um, well, we left the lights and fans on about three times or so, and we got booked about three times or so, and usually when you get booked three times or so you go to DC?") Thank goodness for those loud angklung people; I would totally have fallen asleep if they hadn't started playing halfway through DC. Xinyuan complained that it was just the same song looping over and over (I dunno, they all sound the same) but even so, it beats Britney's Hit Me Baby One More Time, which, incidentally, loops for 30minutes on the studio's computer.

fighting spiders
Tuesday, April 14, 2009
I think this new show on Channel 5 is awesome. Not necessarily because it has any literary merit (already it's starting to show signs of following in its Channel 8 companions' footsteps) but because it is just hilarious. Man I so love that coffeeshop scene. Fat auntie with hair piled up like a beehive makes protagonist's brother lose his job (think: "OMG EUU SPILL COFFEE ON ME, EUU DIE!!!!!") and so brother loses his job. And then brother joins a gang, and comes back to the coffeeshop and *gasp* sits at the fat auntie's table. Fat auntie: "Oi! Get out of my table!" Brother: *glare* Fat auntie: "Maybe if you beg me hard enough, I'll speak to the coffeeshop towkay to let you..." *gang comes in, complete with bengs with awesomely cool tight shirts and flashy gold chains. They stand surrounding the fat woman and generally look beng.* Fat auntie: "Oh shit." *zao* Whooo bengs! Plus a good dose of dialect manzxszxs. I miss listening to people swearing colourfully in Hokkien. Actually I just kind of miss listening to random dialect bits anyway. Lol. But I don't get the hype over fighting spiders. Protagonist: "I'LL FIND A SPIDER TO BEAT YOUR SPIDER!" Antagonist: "BET YOU CAN'T." Protagonist: "BET I CAN" ... And so after that the protagonist troops off to listen to some satay seller talk about some king spider found in JB, and they start planning their pilgrimage to JB to find a spider to beat the other spider. He should just have genetically modified a SuperSpider. Cross spider with a bit of... I dunno, tarantula? You can just imagine him taking out a matchbox and opening it a crack, and this huge hairy leg slowly unfolds itself out of the box. Then again, he could always have just made a part spider, part cyborg. Like the Terminators, hell yeah. Terminspider.

It just occurred to me (while reading through my past few posts) that they all center around AV. I sound like a nolife loser who has no life apart from AV. And while that might be true, is it my fault that nothing is even nearly interesting enough to rival AV D: Well, GM on Saturday. I now truly appreciate how much it sucks to be a secretary/treasurer, when you get mobbed by people giving you 2 $10 notes and asking for $5 in change. Which, considering that everyone else gave you $10 notes too, you kind of happen not to have. Mr Lee was totally abusing our privileges as the AV club by wheeling out the amphi system, and allowing us to use the mikes instead of having to holler at the Koi pond. Ironically enough, I have the same phobia of mikes that I've suanned numerous people for having D: Hmm but voices do sound very weird when miked, if that's the verb. Cheryl was complaining about her voice sounding very high and mine sounding very low. So I went over to the mixer, adjusted mine to sound higher, and hers to sound higher too. >< However there's apparently a limit to how high you can make someone's voice go without bursting the speakers (which Mr Lee SAID he'd let us do! He promised okay!) or maybe her voice is really that chipmunk-like in real life. During a game of human sculptures, one rather enterprising group decided that they had just enough members to form the words "THOMAS LEE" and did so, claiming that it was related to AV because... well, just because. I wanted to take pictures of all the groups' sculptures because 1. Cheryl was taking damn long. Everyone was howling "OIEEE HURRY UP!!!" and 2. my handphone camera is higher resolution than hers, hah! and 3. SHE DOESN'T HAVE FACEBOOK NEH NEH NEH NEH NEH NEH. I didn't contribute the last one, btw. It was Ningxin. Who apparently stalks seniors in her free time eh? :D (*coughandersoncough*) Sigh she was supposed to send me the pictures so that I could put them on Facebook but I bet she forgot again. Yawn. Tomorrow I'll have to be in school at 7am again to collect more money (btw we had so much club funds we were all "woah" when we saw it. Mr Lee kindly offered to keep it for us first, since none of us dared to. I mean, hello, muggable! And not in the nerd sense.) In a completely unrelated topic, my condo has rats. Or at least ONE rat. Yesterday night I was walking home happily when I saw a little furry thing crouched outside the aircon vent of the house on the first storey. It scurried into a little crevice behind the aircon vent, and I excitedly told my mum: "Look! There's a rat!" And so we both decided to look behind the little crevice. I guess we'd thought rats possessed the same powers of vanishing into thin air that other creepy things like lizards (have you ever tried looking for a lizard? It is SO annoying and frustrating.) do. We couldn't see anything much in the dim light, and we stood peering into the little crevice wondering where it was when suddenly the abovementioned furry blob scurried right out past our feet, scaring us like crap. Rats are incredibly sneaky and not very nice. :/

associate membership sucks
Wednesday, April 08, 2009
I'm kind of starting to regret agreeing to join infocomm as a member-- an associate member, but still one nonetheless. My suspicions were confirmed; infocomm definitely doesn't cater to my area of interest in computers. The nearest they have is web programming, and I guess that's somewhat similar, but, you know, just not my type. So basically I'm just going to continue floating in this current state of lack of programming knowledge D: I wish I could join RI ICC. I'm sure they have more programmers there. Oh argh I miss the Dec course. Ah well come to think of it, what do I care what the school does anyway. I am absolutely capable of doing stuff myself, which includes training myself, if the school can't. Hah. And anyway they wouldn't acknowledge it, just like how I bet no one except those I actually told know I won something at NOI. The very first, but apparently rather insignificant in the face of other things like sports and performing arts. Grah ignore me; I've just been getting more and more pissed at things lately. It kind of makes me want to really hit something hard. Maybe all those high school shooters were also people who weren't appreciated by others. (Lol shooter as in the rampaging, murdering kind, not those who truss themselves up in funny waddley suits and represent schools in competitions) -- International incident during Jap today! Sensei was teaching us the honorific form of words (because Japanese people are amazingly humble) and she said there was apparently this rule of thumb: All kanji which originated from Chinese have the prefix "go" in the honorific form. All kanji which the Japanese invented themselves have the prefix "o". Obviously that didn't work out, because we started laying claim to everything in the "Japanese-originated" kanji section. If you think about it, all kanji comes from Chinese anyway. They just don't read it the same way. Like "denwa", which is basically the fanti version of dian hua. So we were like "SENSEI THAT'S FROM CHINESE LA!" So much for inter-culture diplomacy.

sunburnt
Tuesday, April 07, 2009
More comments about the little sunburnt patch on my neck today, including a very sly and sneaky look from Ningxin yesterday. Tsk. I saw Wenjing during lunch, and she spotted the plaster and went in a very concerned fashion (aww) "VICTORIA! WHAT HAPPENED? YOU TRY TO ZI SHA ISSIT!" So I looked at her and said in all seriousness: "No lar. Yesterday I had Chem, and we had to light a bunsen burner. Then we needed to get chemicals, so I bent over to look at the chemical labels and... kena burnt lor." Wenjing believed me and looked like she was about to faint in horror. At least until I couldn't take it anymore and started laughing, at which point she realised I was scamming her (based on a throwback to SLI days; see Perspicacious) and whacked me. And then during SS, Mr Lee was talking and talking and suddenly he went, "...like this Dracula bride here." I didn't realise he meant me immediately, because he gives everyone weird nicknames (HAHA HUICHEN IS ICE ^^) which vary from time to time. And then Xinyuan and her mouth the size of Alabama had to go: "Mr Lee, it's a love bite!" Which it is not. That is merely a rumour put into circulation by Ningxin with some loudmouthed help from Xinyuan. Ms Lim happened to be listening in and gave me another crafty look and remarked that my avid protests were "very suspicious". Oh man. If I get hauled off to the school therapist for a lecture on BGRs, I am so going to kill Xinyuan and Ningxin.

Two ponytails movement ftw! :) Cheryl poked me during assembly this morning and hissed in my ear: "WHAT'S WITH YOUR HAIR!" And since SHE'D changed her hairstyle too (it looked like a curry puff) it opened up a whole new can of worms. Me: "Well, what's with YOURS?" So basically assembly became a huge spate of "what's with your hair" insults. Cheryl refused to believe that her hair looked different, so I marshalled all the juniors and went loudly: "JUNIORS! Her hair looks damn weird right!" In the face of all the cheering and agreement, Cheryl finally gave me a very mean look and said: "Fine, so it's a little puffy..." but was drowned out by a new chorus of laughter. Ningxin is super sick :O I got sunburned on my neck and there was a rash there, so I covered it with gauze so it'd heal faster. Ningxin saw it, pointed at it, and said: "Eh Vic, you got a lovebite issit!" I was so shocked I stared at her for like 10 seconds before squealing and throwing a tantrum. Stupid Ningxin! After that the juniors reported to us on their ICT training. Cheryl: "Did you do troubleshooting with them?" Juniors: *guilty looks* "Um, yeah. It was... funny :D" Cheryl: "What exactly DID you do?" Juniors: "Nothing much. We... just unplugged a couple of wires from the computer. And put the audio jack into the wrong hole. And messed up the software. And we kind of changed the computer's language to Korean. And we might have turned the projector the other way around. Not alot la." I am quite pleased I wasn't the one undergoing training. Huichen didn't make any snide comments about my hair though :D In fact, she was playing with it. Xinyuan, who is likewise as sick, kept mouthing stuff like "FLIRTING WOAHHH" at me. Tsk AV people so corrupted one. SS today was fun, again. SS lessons seem to pass twice as fast as other lessons. We were talking about Al Jazeera and the Films Act. Me/Xinyuan: "Mr Lee, doesn't that contravene the Films Act?" Mr Lee: "Hmm. Not particularly." Crystal: "Huh why?" Mr Lee: "Well, Crystal, you see, videos are particularly easy to make. I mean, just ask my AV girls- Oh, damn, you ARE one of my AV girls." Random thought of the day: "Matriarch" and "Matrix" sound remarkably like each other!

when lightning strikes
Sunday, April 05, 2009
In the days before AV, (and believe me, that was a long long time ago) they once had this assembly talk about what to do in the event of a thunderstorm. Since those were the days before AV, and I was still a Good Kid then, I actually paid attention to the speaker. Also, since I was also a Good Singaporean, and like all Good Singaporeans, had a case of extreme siege mentality, I lived the rest of my life in fear of being caught in a thunderstorm. Well, at least until SCDF gave every family in my block a Civil Defence Handbook, and I read it. From then on I lived the rest of my life in fear of being subjected to a biological bomb. (Did you know that in the event of a bio bomb, we have to scrub ourselves clean at designated public bathing areas in front of people with scary gas masks and infection-proof suits? And then submit all your clothing and other contaminated items in a plastic bag for checking? Horrifying, isn't it?) To demonstrate my point further, I shall just say that a week after reading the SCDF handbook, I took an MRT home. Throughout the entire journey, I was visibly shaking in fear and giving everyone ratings on their likehood of being a terrorist. I am obviously the perfect Good Singaporean-- siege mentality at its maximum. Back to that thought about thunderstorms. This morning during archery, black clouds suddenly rolled in. There I was, happily thinking that it was finally going to rain, and we'd be freed from the throat-parching, skin-dehydrating heat of the morning. And then the first flash of lightning lit up the clouds. I went hysterical. "OH MY GOD, THERE'S LIGHTNING, THERE'S LIGHTNING, WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE AHHHHHHH!" If you think about it, I kind of had pretty good reasons to be worried. 1. In the case of lightning, the last place you want to be is in a wide open field. Which was kind of like the wide open field we happened to be standing in. 2. In the case of lightning, the next last thing you want to be doing is standing next to long metal objects. Which were kind of like the numerous stabilizers on the bows that we were standing next to. 3. In the case of lightning, you definitely do not want to be standing upright for the lightning to hit. Which was kind of like how my coach just told me to stand while shooting a few minutes before. But thankfully enough I was not, uh, electrical-conducterish enough to get struck. Which is a good thing. Everyone should be un-electrical-conducterish.

annoying teacherpoachers
Saturday, April 04, 2009
It is one thing to have your teacher IC leave your CCA, but another thing altogether to have someone else poach them away from you. Not to say that Mr Lee HAS left AV, but you know, just saying in light of certain events that have struck disturbingly close to a nerve. And I swear, it really makes me want to strangle them with my bare hands, and I would have too, if Cheryl hadn't been physically restraining me at that time. Thoroughly despicable, it is. (teacher-poaching, not physically restraining someone.) In any case, I really have to get on to preparing GM and doing art practical, among other things. Then again, for some reason I seem to have a lot more free time than most other RGS girls, and it is getting somewhat worrying. Sigh RGS has apparently subconciously influenced me. But like Xinyuan said, I do feel somewhat overshadowed (is that the word) by other much more hyperachieving seniors. On to lighter and less anger-filled issues, I saw this car being redecorated just now. There were three huge Stitch decals on each side, and the back of the car was filled with about a million Stitch plushies. Obsession much?

love japbuddies!
Friday, April 03, 2009
Mmm local immersion is over! ): It was really hard translating stuff into Japanese-- I finally discovered how much my Jap sucks-- but it was really fun :D My buddy is super duper sweet :D They're really cute. Especially their pseudo-uniforms. The Jap School in Singapore doesn't actually HAVE uniforms. Everyone gets to wear their own clothes, but for some reason they all wear similar looking clothes. I don't remember much about yesterday, except that we looked through my buddy's workbooks and we were like "OMG SO TOUGH". I saw a paragraph on graph transformation in her SEC 3 WORKBOOK. And she's only 14 can. As in, everyone in the same grade as us is one year younger, for some reason. Going to the Jap school should be quite shiok. They start at around 9am and end at 3:30pm. When I related this fact to Xinyuan, she looked absolutely outraged. But they go to cram school at night. Even in Singapore. So I guess that's tiring la. Oh but because my Jap sucked so bad, I had to keep flipping through my dictionary to look up words. Tsk everyone was laughing at me. But is it my fault my Jap is so horrible D: Anyway today Lydia and I tied two ponytails each, in an effort to be like the Jap students. I managed to psycho some other people to tie two ponytails too, like Crystal and Denise. Xinyuan and Cherylchan remained vehemently against it. Sigh such anti-twoponytailsness. Crystal and I think it looks cute though, so we're going to switch to it permenantly yay! :D Oh during assembly: Cherylchan: "Mr Nuh, why don't you tie two ponytails too!" Xinyuan: "Yup I think your hair can. It's longer than mine." Mr Nuh: "Uh. If Mr Lee ties I'll tie." Me: "Mr Lee will you?" Mr Lee: "No." Xinyuan: "Well, if Mr Lee ties, I'll tie TOO!" Aha and then my Jap buddy wanted to take a picture of the assembly performers, so I showed her the window where she could get a better view. So again Cheryl was trying to be nice and smacked me and said: "Eh bring your buddy out to see la!" I told her I didn't know how to say that in Japanese, and then Cheryl shouted: "WATASHI!" Both my Jap buddy and I were staring at her curiously, so she gave me that obvious look and said: "Isn't that how you start all sentences?" (Interestingly enough, it means "I". Watashi had to explain that to her afterwards. [Ahaha I was going to put a Japanese-d version of her name, like Cheryl chan, instead of "her" in the previous sentence, but then I realised that it WAS her name. Lol.]) After that, Eriko chan (hahah that's my Jap buddy's name.) and I crashed lowersec assembly to watch Angklung perform. Sigh I fudged the facts a little-- I told her that Angklung was the closest we had to a Singaporean culture kind of music. I mean quite obviously, there isn't an instrument that all Singaporeans play, except maybe the mp3 player. But anyway she liked it, I think. Karmun was stressing out over how Cheryl had deathrayed her when the conductor told one of the performers to adjust the mikes. She was fretting over how Cheryl looked damn scary when she played (in almost exact words: "SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE'S VENTING HER ANGER CAN!) and that she was going to hit her with the same amount of strength. I think I shall be nicer to her from now on. I, uh, definitely do not want to be on the receiving end of her angklung playing. Ohyeah choir was supposed to perform during uppersec assembly, and Cheryl gleefully told us so during morning assembly. Me: "Eee choir." Ningxin: "Eeyer I don't want to listen to choir!" Me: "You won't get choir la. Lowersec assembly gets angklung, so you'll get Cherylchan." Ningxin: "EVEN WORSE D:" Cherylchan: "EH!" Ningxin: "You know when you smile when you're playing, you look like a serial killer." Cherylchan: "I DO NOT!" Me: "How's that different from her normal smile >)" Cherylchan: "WALAU I KILL YOU ARH!" Lul. Absolutely not contradictory at all. :D

of water babies and surrogate mothers

There were rumours flying around the class that Mr Lee was going to quit and leave for greener pastures, so I finally asked him during assembly today. I figured better to know than to be surprised. Me: "Mr Lee, is it true that you're going to quit the school?" Mr Lee: "Yes." Cheryl was also listening in since it involves her too, and I tell you all the blood visibly drained from her face. We just stood there in shocked silence until one of us (can't remember who) had the good sense to ask: "When?" Mr Lee: "SOMEDAY LA. DUH YOU CAN'T EXPECT ME TO STAY HERE FOREVER. Kaboosh la what were you thinking!" Damn the stupid April Fools' mood. Later on, I happily told the both of them that there was due to be a virus released today, or Straits Times is pranking us. Cheryl once again looked horrified, until Mr Lee was like all, "Oh lol, they're pranking us. I went to the website they printed in the paper, because that's the kind of person I am, and it doesn't exist." Cheryl stomped around looking damn pissed after that. When I got into class, Crystal grabbed my hand and said: "Mr Yang is Mr Lee today! We're calling him Mr Lee and asking him questions about advocacy!" Xinyuan later contributed that Mr Yang- I mean, Mr Lee, had pranked us earlier on by striding into class and going all "seperate your desks class, there's going to be an assessment now," hereby throwing all muggertoads into a tizzy. For some reason, Mr Yang brought transparent water babies and poured them into a cup filled with water, so half of us went "Mr Lee, what are your views on the surrogacy of water babies?" and the other half went "Ms Ning, does that mean the refractive index of water babies is the same as water?" Identity crisis much. Sarah decided to be super lame and said: "HAH I SHALL NOW USE MY AWESOME POWERS TO TURN THIS WATER INTO ICE!" and fished out a couple of water babies. "LOOK AT THE ICE IN MY HAND MUAHAHAHA. NOW I'LL TURN IT BACK INTO WATER!" and dropped them back in. :D Super fail prank: We stood up halfway and all went "THANK YOU AND GOODBYE MR LEE" in an attempt to annoy Mr Yang, but he bounced back damn fast and said: "Okay Mr Lee's gone. Now Mr Yang's here and let's get back to irreducible quadratic fractions." We tried pranking Dr Sakhar, but it was also quite fail. I pretended Lydia was my Jap buddy and introduced her as "Suzuki Takashimaya". I called her Takashimaya-chan for the rest of the day. We were totally second-guessing if Dr Sakhar would prank us. Like rotiprata the class or something. But he didn't. Or at least I didn't spot anything. Aww. Pathetic attempt at singing "TAI YANG GONG GONG QI CHUANG LIAO~~~" when lilaoshi walked in fell flat on our faces. It went more like "TAI YANG... WALAU WHY NO ONE ELSE SINGING!" After that Cheryl told me about the pranks her class played on their teachers. Rah why are other classes so creative. Anyway there was once she apparently hid in a cupboard the whole time during Chem with her classmates (in other random cupboards) and Mr Lau found all of them except her. So she ended up hyperventilating the entire lesson. Mr Lau pranked the class too. Something about making them sign on a piece of paper with a code, and then making them read out the code which spelt "I AM AN IDIOT" or something like that. And this year, their class got their Maths teacher to hide in a cupboard in order to prank their SS teacher. Lul damn funny. Imagine opening a closet to find not a student but another teacher inside. Must ask Ms Lim about it during RS :D Then Cheryl decided to be damn evil and prank all the widdle juniors coming for ICT rep training. She made me wrap a piece of green cloth from the class birthday sash around my hand, and told all the Sec1s: "If you want to touch any AV appliances, you must make sure you touch it only through the sash. Otherwise, you'll get electrocuted and die. You can also use your belt, if it's unattached." (Cue sec1s looking flusteredly at each other. But no one removes their belt because HAHA all of their belts ARE STILL ATTACHED.) Cheryl: "So you see all those seniors walking around with low belts? That's because they were once AV reps, and therefore they had to unattach their belts so they wouldn't get electrocuted." Denise: "Yeah, and there was a case in 2002 where this RGS girl died because she didn't practise this, and got electrocuted. Didn't yall hear about it?" And then she wanted to go prank Mr Nuh as well, by getting the Sec1s to go to IT dept looking for "Mr Noob". (Inside joke) Come to think of it all her pranks are damn evil. Like the time she sent a Camp Crew group the the squash toilets when the actual station was at the amphi. The juniors actually believed us all the way up until I decided to be nice and tell them the truth. :) Hm, I wonder if ACSI MR did the Nationalanthem -> My Humps thing again.
