confessions of an (airheaded) mugger

Bet you thought this was going to be witty. But in the interest of Internet safety and all that jazz, I shall refrain from divulging highly sensitive information, including age, telephone number, and weight. I guess a name is ok though; how else will you know it's me? (But seriously, kids, don't talk to strange old men on the Internet)
I do adore owls though. But you already knew that so I guess that's ok too.

I will blog about our awsum Teachers' Day gift to Mr Lim/Ms Picca tomorrow, or when Karen uploads the video, whichever is nearer to the time when inspiration strikes me.

I'm in a sad mood now and I wouldn't do justice to the happiness of the gift, because of this:

Crystal said this morning that she'd lend me "We Need To Talk About Kevin" once Xinyuan's done with it, because she thinks I'll be able to find a bit of myself in Kevin. Who is, incidentally, a mass murderer.

So I don't know whether I should be pleased, or insulted, or if I should just murder Crystal and forget all about it.

Perhaps we were all happy once upon a time, before we became cynical and grouchy.

Mr Xu came into the GO this morning and said to Denise and me: "Hey I ask you a question. Should I save my tooth?"

So we debated with him for about 15 minutes about whether he should save his tooth for $3000, and only at a 50-50 survival rate, or pull it out for $250, but not be able to eat crab on one side forever.

In the end he still hadn't come to a conclusion, and ended up arguing for it and against it by himself. And then he started getting philosophical about his tooth "Can I kill it if it's not technically alive? Are teeth alive?" and Denise fended him off by introducing him to Mr Angel, and they trotted off to have a COI on teeth or something like that.

After that we were bored, so we wrote "SAVE THE TOOTH" really big on a piece of paper, like a "save the whales" riot sign or something, and drew a picture of a sad tooth. But we ran into a bit of a problem with the mouth, because Denise drew teeth, and I was like "Wait. Do teeth have teeth? What's up with that? Metateeth?"

--

During RALA, Ms Picca accused me of smiling too much. ._.

She really ought to fight it out with Mr Lee, who is convinced that I'm depressed and that I look like something out of a Korean zombie movie; and he reenacted this in great detail one day while waiting for the lift. "Yeah, see, now she's glaring at me through her fringe, it's like those zombies when they come out of the grave and stare at you."

--

It is odd to hear teachers gossip about hair O: I thought I was the only one who ever noticed. But then again I guess they were probably all too polite to say anything.

--

When I was walking out of the hall after Speech Day Ms Leow happily said: "BYE VICTORIA" so I responded "BYE MS LEOW", and then she shouted at me "Ha ha I have taken a shower and you have not, pookie pookie poo!"

--

Mr Lee keeps trying to chase me home, even though I keep telling him that I have to wait for my mum. And he keeps trying to get me to mug for eyas, even though I can't because I will end up having a panic attack. And he keeps on trying to get me to mug for SS, which I can't because he's marking and I will definitely get failed by him, so I can kiss my SS grade good bye. So FML.

And then when I told him that, he just looked all concerned and was like "What happened?"

I hope he isn't still hung up over his (erroneous) theory that I am having "relationship problems", because I kind of don't.

Today we went to RI to look at their artworks.

Which are really awesome, compared to ours (when I say ours I really mean mine)

There were a couple of paintings hidden away inside their art gallery, and Ms Tong asked why they weren't on display outside.

And so the teacher sheepishly replied that they HAD been outside, but the school had asked them to take them back in, because one of them was too dark (guy drew himself as a puppet)

There was one that confused everyone, because it was a shot of an RI guy holding onto one edge of his spectacles with an oddly superior yet horselike grin. But technically it was really good, so we asked why that one wasn't outside too.

"Um, the school admin requested that we take it in, because it looked a little too... feminine."

And one in the corner was apparently taken in because 1. The guy's hair was too long and 2. He wasn't wearing a school badge.

The only thing that really amused me today was during Speech Day rehearsal, when the teachers were niaoing about finale and asking the emcees to restart their speech from the beginning.

The emcees probably got too used to their mics being automatically muted when they walked off backstage and started muttering viciously under their breath about the teachers.

But sadly Zek Min was otherwise engaged and couldn't mute them in time, and all the teachers in the hall heard the emcees bitching about them, which was broadcasted across the hall system.

So that was amusing, and I had to radio up to control to mute them ._.

Oh before I forget this is completely unrelated but I still want to get it down before I forget.

GM today was funny cos we had lots of filler time and so I went up to do some banter and keep people from falling asleep.

Except that I'm not a very good speaker and hence promptly ran out of things to say after the first 5 minutes of "Hey thanks everyone we'll miss you."

And then since sound gets eaten up by the big empty hall (okay no not really, but I don't know how to phrase it IT'S NEARLY 11 I AM INCOHERENT) I had to keep trying to project my voice so that the people at the back of the gallery could hear me, which also meant that the Speech Day people sitting on the stage could hear me as well.

So that was odd.

And then Mr Lee took pity on me (or perhaps decided to embarrass me further, I don't know which) and made the juniors turn on the system and give me a mic, even though I thought I was perfectly audible! ): At first I was like "Oh man noooo way am I speaking into a mic and letting EVERYONE hear me," but he convinced me that only the front speakers were on or something like that, and not thinking I spoke into the mic and my voice boomed out throughout the whole hall REALLY embarrassingly.

So I was like "AUGHHH MR LEE I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!!!!!!!!", which was rather unfortunate because that was the loudest thing that everyone probably heard. Even though I'd delivered a pretty nice speech about treasuring your teacher IC because Even Though He's Mean And Weird, He Is A Very Nice Guy And An Awesome Teacher IC as part of my filler time for juniors.

So yup juniors, if you are reading my blog, remember me as the person who told you to treasure and be nice to your teachers, not the one who broadcasted a death threat to him over the hall system. ):

10:37 PM

This morning, as I walked into school, I was accosted by a bunch of ninjas who tried to kidnap me.

Luckily, being the quick thinking genius that I am, I felled them all with a couple of swift kicks to their necks despite my many layers of petticoats. Then I pulled out the pearl handled pistol I always carry around in my pocket next to my iPhone and frilly wallet, and holding it to their necks I demanded that they take me to their leader.

Of course the ninjas complied, and fearing for their lives they proclaimed me their goddess and proceeded to whisk me swiftly out of school to face their ex-leader for a battle to the death.

--

And the above was all nonsense, because I obviously don't wear many petticoats.

Okay this afternoon we were having post-GM debriefing, and someone said to Kar Mun that Mr Lee stalks her blog. And then Belinda said that Mr Lee reads my blog, and apparently told her that I write interestingly. So, uh, HI MR LEE, if you see this, which I don't think you will. Because you once said you don't read my blog.

And then Cheryl was like "EH YEAH I read your blog too! It's super easy to stalk you la, you blog everything about your life!"

But I would beg to differ, because unlike Crystal I actually conceal details that are TMI-ish, such as the existence of extra toenails. Not that I have extra toenails (all my toenails are in order and normal) but just an example.

So to deter stalkers, I decided that I would post misinformation about my life! Hence that silly paragraph about ninjas and pistols. But obviously you see it failed.

As such, I have decided to be open and honest with myself, and continue writing about myself, not because I am an egoistical maniac (I mean I AM, but that's not the main reason) but because I am the subject that I know best, according to Freda Kahlo (Heh I nearly typed Hedda Gabler)

Also I am actually putting in textual evidence, because of our English essay that we got back today ): I have realised that I can't differentiate between writer's voice and overly informal writing; and Xinyuan suggested that I write my essays like a blogpost since that's what I do best. But that would obviously fail omg can you imagine something like:

"New media opens a portal for women to have a voice and express their views even in a traditionally male-dominated world. New media is powerful in that it breaks the seal of silence that has been placed on them, like, forever. HAHAHA okay actually I don't actually know what I'm talking about, so, heh. Toodles!"

So I suppose I should try to FORMALIZE my blogposts, so that I can sound a little more stuffy and academic when I write. And I suppose the first step would be eliminating words like "stuffy" in favour of "serious and respectable".

But whatever.

--

Today I was mulling over Bio restriction maps during study block (they are killer. My mind has not done so much strategizing since my days as a chess geek) and Crystal was sleeping. And then Mr Lim came over and was all "Hey Victoria are the slides in the laptop?"

Since I was still in a Bio hangover I was like "Huh what slides?" And since I had no context whatsoever it sounded like one of those spy movies, where the characters all speak in weird code like "The potatoes have grown eyes." And when you reply something perfectly nonsensical like "Yes, and the cabbage has moulted." the suspicious shifty-eyed characters give you a small slip of paper and then mutter furtively: "Eat this when you're done!" and disappear into the crowd.

So I was trying to decide whether to reply something typical like "Huh?" or something spy-like like "The eagle has flown the coop." I opted for the former.

Sighhh Speech Day stuff. Preparation is seriously hectic lah I ran over to tell Mr Lee, who went to find Mr Lim anyway because he didn't understand what I was saying. I guess I need to work on speaking better.

Anyway I find the way Mr Lim speaks really funny! I think he conducts most of the discussion in his head, because there are prolonged periods of silence and then suddenly he says something totally without context. So there was this really really long silence after I told him that we were using a Mac in the control room, and I wasn't sure whether it would be appropriate to continue my Bio restriction maps or to check whether he'd fainted while sitting up. In the end I just blinked and waited, and he just stood up abruptly and said "byebye."

So I shook Crystal awake, and she was like "Bleargh did I just hear a male voice?"

Me: "Nope. Must have been a dream."
Crystal: "No I'm quite sure I heard a male voice. Talking about Macbooks."
Me: "Maybe it's your future boyfriend coming to visit you in a dream."

Evidently I still haven't mastered the art of telling jokes with a straight face, because I crumpled like about 5 seconds after that. It was embarrassing.

--

Hmm anyway I don't really want to blog about Farewell, because it hasn't really sunk in yet and GOSH I still haven't finished presents for the new EXCO. ):

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Okay yesterday I was tired so I stopped blogging after documenting Ms Picca's ai mei stories.

So this post is about Speech Day!

I am very proud of my Sec 2s :D They are like my little birdies and I adore them to bits. They are super awesome at mic placement and EVERYTHING SOUNDS LOVELY. Kudos also to my sec 1s, but I'll let Mr Lee do the fangirling over that one. We actually got Strings sounding perfect on the first try :D And I really wanted to hug them so much because I'm leaving the club in capable, capable, CAPABLE hands.

Yeah hmm I was slacking during the prize giving segment, and Ms Picca offered to get me water. So feeling guilty, I went to get water with her and ended up offering all the teachers water. Only Mr Xu and Mrs Hoo took me up on my offer. ):

OOH Ms Picca-Mr Lim story: (YES XINYUAN we need a shippy name, like now! I hope RALA comes up with one soon) Ms Picca lovingly offered Mr Lim water even though she'd asked me to offer all the teachers one. But obviously she has to do more for her darling :D :D :D Yay I have witnessed firsthand their blossoming love.

Sadly Mr Lim rejected the water -_- But I'm sure he'll make up for it by buying her -brackvoice- late night supper >)

Anyway finale for Speech Day is super lame la hahaha. They're singing "If We Hold On Together" which is stupid and mushy. The AV crew for Founders' Day last year were laughing at it during the second night. Mr Lee defended it by saying we'd all have to sing it with our future husbands during some marriage bonding nonsense and we laughed even harder.

But the only thing worse than "If We Hold On Together" is "If We Hold On Together" played at the speed that people play when they're sight reading, except slower. And the only thing worse than that is having to listen to that after a rousing and loud CO drum song.

It made me want to cry in mourning. And I think some of the teachers did, if only from laughing too hard. Mr Lim literally had to squat down because he was laughing too hard. I mean like hello, awesome drum song and then... "Doooooooooooo....oon't lose your waaa...aaay"

They finally got it up to quite a fast speed, and Mr Lee was trying to conduct from downstairs, being the very humble super pro diploma-in-piano person he is. So we got into a mock argument niaoing each other. "Pro la! Diploma in piano la-" "Yeeeeah sure I wasn't the one practising during assembly just now-" "Yeah cos you don't have to practise cos you're such a piano genius-"

Belinda got scared cos she thought we were REALLY arguing, and kept telling us to chill.

But anyway. Back to "If We Hold On Together". They got it up to a relatively fast speed, but it was still depressing because it IS by nature a very depressing song. And then some teacher made the performers start swaying, and they ended up doing some Kallang-wave-sway mixture. And then I really cried because it looked so ODD.

Tag replies!

To everyone about Hedda: YESSS MUSICAL :D Haha end-of-years? :D
Xinyuan: YEAH haha I bet that's why she thought of it. -brackvoice- Love is... everything >)

According to Vickipedia, "You parallel park really well." is short form for "I am deeply madly truly in love with you. Please marry me and I promise to lavish you with affection and pretty gifts, my little skylark."

HEE HEE.

The shipping of Mr L and Ms P continues. Turns out the whole of RALA is as excited about it as Crystal Xinyuan and I are. And Ms P has a guilty conscience.

Lydia and I had to leave for Speech Day rehearsal and so we requested to leave. And being the SD chairperson Ms P had to leave too, and she showed her anxiety by going: "Oh no! Speech Day!" I suppose some nonsneaky people were waggling their eyebrows like crazy, and then she said, "What? Oh. Mr L."

And then the whole class cheered, because we love hearing Ms P-Mr L stories!

So she told us about how they stayed back in school until 1030 (ooh) and then she fetched him home "see the extent of my love for him?" (OOH) and how they went for late night supper at macdonalds at KAP (OOOOOH) and how it was filled with crazy muggertoads (uh random) and Mr L told her that he used to go there to mug when he was in Hwach (wtf).

I think our class is a very good source of feedback because we cheer at all the juicy parts.

Yeah and then she also told us about how they listened to music together in her car, and how he couldn't stand Leonard Cohen's "croaking" and so they switched to k.d. lang, which earned a seal of approval from Mr L. Interestingly enough she referenced k.d. lang earlier in the lesson; some song which she said felt was totally Nora (A Doll's House). Something about "Love is everything". Hmmm. >)

Supposedly she invited all of RALA to "witness their blossoming love", and so they stalked her from the hall to the KS Chee and back. :D

'HEDDA' GABLER: 'DA' MUSICAL

We had the most awesome idea today during math: we should do an adaptation of Hedda Gabler for the end of year play! It should be like a musical, because we've come up with some really awesome songs.

1. HEDDA'S THEME.

Repressed! Repressed!
I hate my husband Tes;

Repressed! Repressed!
He makes me wish I were les;

Repressed! Repressed!
Thea is such a pest;

Repressed! Repressed!
Lovborg's just a mess;

Repressed! Repressed!
They make me so depressed;

Repressed! Repressed!
Brack keeps staring at my br- I mean, uh, chest.

2. LOVBORG'S THEME (to the tune of the YOG theme song)

Hedda, Hedda, Hedda, HEY!
Hedda, Hedda, Hedda, OH!
You are the one dear Hedda,
The one I love forevah! (pronounced to rhyme with Hedda)

Okay haha we only have two songs, but whatever I think they're pretty cool HAHAHA. And they have hand movements too! :D :D

I think our musical would be a total hit. Too bad we can't propose the idea now cos everyone's stressed for EYAs.

I LOVE THE YEARBOOK!

The quotes are hilarious.

"I'm a diva, don't you know? I'm very flamboyant." Mr Toh says something like this EVERY year.

And Dr Ng! "I hate Barney!" with this decidedly Barneylike expression.

But Mr Azahar has by far the best quotes: (on Friday) "Make sure you watch the PM rally on Sunday!" (on Monday) "I didn't watch the rally because I was watching the Man U match."

I'm glad our class has started stocking up on quotes.

Sigh it's sad to scan through the staff photo and realise that half of them have quit already. And next year when we look back we'll probably strike off a few more.

Plus I don't get why male teachers can't smile properly. Half of them are grinning like they've just heard the best joke ever and the other half just looks like, uh, they have problems going to the toilet.

I shall now give out superlatives!

Most angsty dept: ICT dept. Half the teachers look like they want to kill something, and the other half just look pained. (one third of them promptly followed up by quitting, so well. Yeah.)

Saddest dept: Staff Development Committee. Only 3 are showing any hint of a smile, and out of those 2 just look like they're showing their teeth.

Scariest dept: EAS Community Service Committee. The person in the middle is the stuff nightmares are made out of. And she's the counsellor. I'm sure she's a very nice person in real life, but must she look so very skeletal D:

Happiest dept: English Language and Literature. EVERYONE is smiling. Except one. But still. They all look so pleased and happy with the world.

Friendliest dept: Languages dept. Honestly I have no idea why "languages" is different from "English language", like hello is English not a language too? But there's some pretty friendly stuff going on in the back row. ^^

Most cliquey dept: EAS organising committee. Everyone is holding hands... except Mr Zhang ):

Most bipolar dept: Philo dept. The front row is totally happy, while the back row is totally... not. Except Mr Larry, who looks so happy he could burst.

Best tie: This was hard. We had smileyfaces/pumpkins from Mr Desouza, pandas on Dr Slatter, sharks on Mr Ng... but I think the best one goes to Mrs Koh, for a tie made purely of sequins and actually sewn onto her shirt. (pg 133)

On a random sidenote, I AM ON A COVER PAGE!!!! :D :D :D If you flip to Service CCAs, IT'S MEEEEE :D And the awesome sexy camera, but who cares. I was flipping through the yearbook during Physics, and I opened it up and saw my face there and was like "OMG IT'S ME!" and then flashed it to everyone squealing "LOOK! IT'S ME!!!" Sounded like a 5 year old, but I suspect that IS my actual mental age.

My life has been put into perspective!

Uh, not by all the depressing lost-job things, but by Chinese lessons.

YEAH WHATEVER I'M SHALLOW. OKAY??

So anyway during Chinese tuition that day we went through ming yans, and there was this one in a compre which was supposedly part of a poem by Li Bai. Something about time being a visitor, and things passing through many generations.

AND it reminded me of this line I saw in the prayer book at my uncle's funeral: something about a hectic life being a night's dream.

So in between trying to keep my head from exploding and seriously contemplating life and death, I felt something go like "wooooah" in me.

I read somewhere that you are not a true existentialist until you spend all your time contemplating death (of course this is purely satirical) and I guess appreciating the tininess of life is somewhere closer to that.

But what the heck; I've probably chalked up more practice in the past 2 weeks than I have this whole year so even if passing or failing doesn't mean anything in the Grand Scheme Of Things, I shall still continue spending hours on my piano bench pressing away at the keys and killing my fingers. Might as well give it my best shot.

So I guess I haven't been really perspectivized, or whatever the verb would be.

Ah well at least I'm not having panic attacks anymore. I think. I haven't had one in 2 days, even though that might be because of the weekend. At least I guess it's an improvement.

Tra la la some day I will pass Grade 8, and then I will do my diploma and after that maybe I'll let go enough to play just for the fun of it. Sometimes I wonder if my whole life is just one huge paper chase, but if I'm happy doing it does that make it so wrong?

--

On a separate but still rather shallow note, our Chinese teacher was telling us about Li Bai and Du Fu and how she thought Li Bai was damn shuai qi. And she promptly demonstrated by imitating what she considered to be his two greatest traits: by swaying around drunkedly and throwing money at people, like "Oh! Friend! You require money? HERE TAKE MINE!"

And that Li Bai died by falling into a river one night while in a drunken stupor.

Du Fu was the Chinese equivalent of the emo, she said. Except that he was like really idealistic and wished to "WAAAAA -waves sleeves wildly- make houses appear for all the suffering peasants in the land, just like that!"

And he stumbled around being emo and idealistic during war time, and then he met his friend one day. Said friend treated him to a good meal of beef, during which he was so happy and hungry that he overstuffed himself and promptly died.

Both of which are cases which you know you ought to feel sad for, but still can't help but find it funny.

And then my classmate went (about Du Fu): "Why didn't he just dapao some food home instead?" and we all couldn't stop laughing and laughing and laughing. No disrespect meant to the two poets-- they wrote really beautiful poems and all. I like them.

PIANOOO~~~

5:27 PM
Saturday, August 14, 2010

My hands are aching and I feel like I've been lifting weights or something.

I guess it really says a lot about my physical health when practising piano can do this to me.

I average at least a few hours of practice a day now, but it's not getting any better.

And there are EYAs to mug for.

And homework to do.

And Speech Day rehearsals

and AV handover stuff

and Chinese prelims

and Jap prelims

and all my other stuff like violin and whatnot.

But even so I feel strangely empty inside. I hope this is not the "breaking point" that Mr Lee keeps waving threateningly in my face.

I need someone to put things in perspective for me too.

11:35 AM
Friday, August 13, 2010

I am thinking of giving myself a new name so that I can write more zuowens and hand them up without getting caught by laoshi.

Not like a NEW name altogether, but at least an alternate one so that I can pretend to be another student. Like LiJX laoshi is both LiJX and Li Wei laoshi at the same time. Well now he's LiJX, but one of the relief teachers told us that he used to be Li Wei when he taught her.

So I am going to give myself a danziming, if that's what you call it. So like Yao _____.

As of now the responses have not been very helpful: Crystal suggested Yao Pei but that's too similar to my name and it would be too obvious. Xinyuan suggested Yao Yang and I aimed a kick at her for trying to name me after a sheep. I nearly typed "shoop" there because it's 411's singular for sheep.

Denise suggested Yao Lin in memory of how we used to scream that we were YAO AND LIN FROM MULAN and fight with broomsticks in the classroom.

Sigh I think my surname is awkward for choosing danzimings, because it sounds as though I "want ____", if pronounced wrongly.

But whatever. Suggestions, anyone? :D All will be considered fairly ^^

4:17 PM

It feels odd to walk into the GO and not see Mr Lim sitting there looking very pleased with himself for putting in the National Anthem CD. In fact this morning I rushed in and saw the people rushing out to set up mics and all that, so I had to put in the CD myself.

Then again, I'm not complaining. It feels good to work-- definitely a pleasant change from "Vic, GO HOME. You're RETIRED." Which I most definitely have not. I haven't officially handed over yet, and probably won't until somewhen in September, which was when Cheryl -officially- stepped down. Not that she ever really stepped down until she left the school, but yeah.

On a sidenote, I am now trying hard to hide from the Speech Day OT because I'm afraid that Mr Lee might have put them up to something. His latest Speech-Day-related threat is to get the Speech Day OT to ban me from going for it, which is really quite silly because they're all hyperstressed and wouldn't want to bother with little annoyances like me.

Oh our English teacher was gushing about Speech Day again in class today and how one of her colleagues was kind to her and inspired her in her deep dark abyss of 130 emails. A little unrelated, but the school's spam filter is HILARIOUS. Apparently she gets emails about Viagra and offers to "enlarge her member" on her school email account too. And some teachers complain that the spam filter treats students' emails as spam.

And then she said that she kind of got Sandman, and the class started cheering in elation. Someday when I am rich I will buy all of Gaiman's books and reread them. I loved Stardust, especially the part where the star falls out of the sky and swears in tiny font.

So after that she started talking about how she had a lot of reading to do, especially since the abovementioned colleague (I am trying to be more, uh, safe. Not that it really matters to me, but well. Still. It's an experiment of sorts) had dumped a whole series of Gaiman books (cue screaming from the class) on her. And then she paused, and said, "Not that I have a crush on him or anything. Please don't think so."

And the whole class just blinked and said: "Well, we weren't thinking that. Not until you said it. Now we are."

So our whole class (or at least Xinyuan Crystal and I) are shipping them like crazy, because I really want to attend a teacher's wedding before I graduate! And her protests about how he drives her crazy with (LOL) Socratic questions are just amusing.

It would be a nice time to drop a quote from Twilight (Heh. I confess I read Twilight) by Jacob about hate. "Hate is good! Hate is a passionate emotion!" and waggle my virtual eyebrows in a very Brack-like manner.

I find Brack very amusing. He is a lovely character to read aloud; especially with his whole series of innuendos. Picturing yourself as "the only cock in the yard" >D And "there are plenty of rooms!" I think having a production of Hedda Gabler at the end of the year would be cool. I look forward to hearing Brack and his sexual undertones.

We were talking about Hedda Gabler in Lit today, when we veered alllll the way off topic-- Ms Picca started talking about a dream she had, and then after that she blamed Mr Lim (EY) for lending her Sandman.

And then the whole class started screaming, because EVERYONE is a huge Gaiman fan. So at first it was like "OOOOH SANDMAN!!!!!" "GAIMAN!!!!!!!!!" "AHHH HE HAS SUCH COOL BOOKS!!!!"

I've never read Sandman, but I've read American Gods, and The Graveyard Book, and Coraline, and I've fallen in love with Gaiman.

But the screams quickly turned into screams of horror and disgust, when Ms Picca said that she'd returned the book about one-third of the way through because she "couldn't stand it".

Speech Day rehearsal was Odd. Mr Lee vacillates between "Vic, GO HOME." and "Vic, go move those mics for me thanks". At the moment I'm supposed to be calefare, which I suppose is sort of an improvement from "Go sit in a corner AND DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING." At least I sometimes get a walkietalkie, even though all I do is hiss into it.

Embarrassing walkietalkie moments ALWAYS happen when the hall is quiet. The juniors smartly forgot to hunt down the Indian dance CD, and so I had to run over and tell Ms Leow to wait for them. And then I hissed "HURRY UP" into the walkietalkie in a mildly threatening voice, and then I realised that the whole hall was quiet and listening to me. And then they all laughed at me. In that order.

Yeah. Apart from that it was pretty meh; I just practised my piano on the book, and watched the corporate video. Mr Lee and I laughed at Mr Azahar. He looks so guai in the corporate video.

Ah Mr Lim has horrible luck with mics! I thought we'd seen the last of it once that bluebadge person left, but yeah bad luck is apparently contagious. He never manages to grab a working mic, and then all the juniors have to swarm over and try to unmute/radio control room, and yet nothing works. It's quite amusing, if a little frustrating to watch.

Ms Picca has also half a mind to make me retire early. I managed to fend her off by hiding behind Mr Lee who was luckily in a "Vic, go move those mics for me thanks" mood. So I have evaded it for a moment.

Sigh time to go sleep.

Would someone kindly enlighten me on one of the mysteries of life?

What, exactly, does one wear to a concert?

I mean I've been for concerts before, except that 1. they've all been school concerts, and people just wear uniform there and heck care it, and 2. I was doing videoing, so I obviously wore AV shirt.

But this is an honest-to-goodness REAL concert, and I can't possibly mosey up in SCHOOL UNIFORM. Because that wouldn't be too weird or anything.

Keyun assures me that I can just wear a shirt and jeans, but then it's a CONCERT. I'll be woefully underdressed, and this whole bunch of tai tais dressed in Prada evening gowns and toting LV bags will look down the tips of their long noses at me!!! And I will be forced to take cover in a hole in the ground, and that would suck because I wouldn't be able to enjoy the concert at all.

Or what if I play safe and dress nicely, and then everyone there is in SHORTS AND FLIP FLOPS??? And everyone would then be snickering at the idiot who bothered to dress up for a concert, and they'll take pictures and put them on Stomp, and I WILL SCREAM.

-cue anxiety-

It would be a lot easier if I were a guy, because then I could really just wear a shirt and jeans. Because it's neither over nor underdressed, and it's what guys wear around all the time anyway. But it's so hard to find an equivalent in girl clothes, without looking like you're a crossdresser. And crossdressing only looks amusing if you're a guy, anyway.

So yesterday I burnt the whole afternoon searching for clothes at Taka, since I conveniently had Taka vouchers to spend anyway. My mum bought 2 evening dresses, and I still have NOTHING. Except 2 new books from Kino, but that's a whole different thing altogether. I can't wear BOOKS to a concert, unless I want to get really weird stares, and a fine for indecent exposure.

I'm now appealing to all the kind souls out there with better fashion sense/more active lives than I do, which is just about everyone. WHAT DOES ONE WEAR TO A CONCERT D:

Mr Lim's walkie talkie etiquette is excellent.

Mr Lee: "Mr Lim, Mr Lim, send!"
Mr Lim: "WHAAAAAASSSSSSUUUUUUUPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!"

All the teachers in the hall turned around to look at the source of the wassup. And Belinda and I roared in laughter.

The Speech Day programme is HILARIOUS. There are instructions to print booklets, with a specification of the number to be printed "n=7", and something about Mrs Tan providing "nice biscuits".

And there's even a script for walkie-talkies! (Hahaaaaa I bet our Mr Lim would not like this)

I quote:

"EY: 'EY to R, GOH has arrived.'
R: 'R to EY, that is a roger over.'"

I was very excited about this and told Mr Lee that we ought to do the same things with our walkie-talkies, instead of just going "Control control send" boringly. He just rolled his eyes and said that ours was the American signal standard, blah blah, blah blah.

So we asked him what the standard in the programme was, if not standard.

Mr Lee: "Oh. That's crap. From too much TV dramas."

Which is really mean, but somehow funny. Sigh imitating TV dramas is a lot more interesting than what we do. But when I mentioned this to Mr Lee he just rolled his eyes again and said "I WAS A SIGNAL OPERATOR IN THE ARMY. SHUT UP."

I do NOT need psychiatric help!!

Bleh Xinyuan was spreading disinformation about my needing so to Mr Lee, who called me down to have a Talk About Life with him. General FML moment. He keeps trying to force me into retirement, because he's convinced I am at Breaking Point like he is, even though I'm not doing half as many things as he is.

But our great MM Lee says you cannot retire until you are 65, and since I am not 65 yet I am obviously not going to retire. Plus like Mrs Hoo said, if you retire, you die. So nada on the retirement front. I WILL NOT YIELD, BLEH.

Piano exam in less than 3 weeks! ):

I've been practising hard, and will continue to spam practice, so I might not be seen here for awhile ): Miss me dearies D:

Anyway I am now counting down the days and all that till I can hand up my coursework, and heave a hugeeee sigh of relief. And then there's Lit AA, and then piano exam, and then EYAs. AND THEN I'LL BE FREEE. FREEEEEEEEEEEE. Except for Options, which will be fun! I hope.

Sigh I've been feeling pretty dumb in Philo nowadays. I haven't had a single aha moment this year, and I can't shake the feeling that I'm not grasping the whole concept. Rachel says its because there's really nothing to grasp, but it's like, urgh, I just want to strangle a snake.

Today we were talking about knowledge and deduction vs induction, and we were doing something like "The Problem of Induction". That particular section of the lesson went: "Okay. So, what's the problem of induction? -pause- Okay, class over! Goodbye!"

So everyone was like "WAIT WHAT? So what's the problem of Induction?!"

Mr Lim: -huge grin- "Read up la!" -holds up stack of notes-

Anyway I think he must really hate our class, because everyone sleeps during philo ): It is really bad when the teacher has to beseech us "Eh! Please try to stay awake! I know my voice is very monotonous, but just try D:"

Ah well. I think I wouldn't mind coming back to do relief teaching after JC. It would be An Experience, at least. And if all else fails I would just watch Youtube videos with my class.
