Nice comparison vs misreading? I am annoyed beyond words. Sure I agree in giving teachers a little bit of leeway as to individual preference, but this is just ridiculous. I love Neil Gaiman. I am going to read all his books.

It disturbs me that this is something that might actually happen in Singapore, due to the Stomp culture. See Panel 4, random guy at the bottom. Watch out for the next hot headline on Stomp: Creepy guy hits on girl in train. Seriously, do Stompers have anything better to do?

Ohyeah. I got fullmarks for the math compre about recursion (: But I still cannot figure out what was wrong with my code. Shucks I hope the math compre in the exam will be about something programmingish as well. Like brute force or something. WHICH I STILL MAINTAIN WORKS. ):

I and my classmates are not rich
This morning, I stumbled blearily out of bed as is custom on hazy Saturday mornings. I checked my phone, and realised that Mr Lee had apparently messaged me. It said: "In the papers again? Keep it up." I thought he'd meant to send it to Crystal, what with her opposition party essay and everything, so I just thought nothing of it and went back to sleep. When I woke up again I went to read the papers for Crystal's essay, and strangely enough there was no hint of it. I thought maybe someone'd written in to the forum to lambast the state of youth in Singapore today (wah! support opposition party somemore! what are schools doing!!!!!) and when I flipped to it I saw a huge section dedicated to slamming fallacious people with wrong impressions about GEPers. And my letter was there can how awesome is that. ...okay not so much my letter, but a sentence from it. And a little explanatory paragraph. But there was this hugeass letter from the director of GE branch (though I always thought it was the person who always signs off our GE-branch-organized-events certs? But apparently not) basically telling the abovementioned fallacious people to GET THEIR FACTS RIGHT MUAHAAHHAHAA. But it's still cool. At least a sentence is better than none.

WHY AM I READING I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER WHEN I OUGHT TO BE MUGGING BIO, AND HOMOLOGOUS STRUCTURES!! Ah but I was reading up about Arctic hares (FOR BIO, I SWEAR) and they are completely ADORABLE!! Did you know that arctic hares, if threatened, will stand up really straight on their hind legs and look around, before either running away on all fours or hopping away on their hind legs? They go up to speeds of 64km/h. Which is the speed of a moderately fast car. HELLO HOW AWESOME IS THAT. It's cute and fast. Go google "arctic hare" on google images. Oh, must really really really get back to mugging. And yes Rachel I do have 14 papers -__- I take more subjects than you, remember? Oh joy; after Bio I need to mug SS. Which I am terrible at but really really really need a 13 for the final SA. Or all my efforts will have gone to naught. Hear that? NAUGHT. Because of the horrible percentage thing. NAUGHT, MR LEE, NAUGHT. -pelts guilt bombs- Grayte. C'mon, homologous structures. What have you got to say for yourself?

I have taken a welcome break from mugging (: I kind of regret buying the scream city notebook for all my revision notes. That's the azone one with a thin coloured plastic cover, with various pictures of cartoony people screaming. Because everytime I flip open my book to make more notes, I feel like joining the people on the front cover and screaming. There's this particular cartoon guy whose eyes are nothing more than spirals. And his mouth is opened up and curved downwards, in a typical (D8) kind of expression. I keep getting the feeling that I'm looking into a mirror when I look at him. I should have bought the labworks one instead. That would have helped with Chemistry. I have 14 papers to mug for. D8 Although admittedly, I have been taking a break from mugging and, uh, writing forum letters. I know I'd previously said that I'd never write in to the forum, at the risk of sounding whiny, but there are times when whiny people really goad me into action. And this is kind of what happened today. Some random lady was whining about how the GEP is unfair (presumably because her son didn't get in? I kind of got the impression that she was being extremely sour about the whole thing) and all her points of contention were false. For example, she implied that more girls get in than boys, due to their better command of English. Uhm, I'm sorry, but 7 girls seems to be much less than the 17 boys we had in our class? And then she said something about the admission criteria centering solely on Math and English, conveniently ignoring the two GATs we had to sit for, which are IQ tests, or according to the MOE websites, tests for "abstract reasoning ability". Which everyone knows is just a cheem waffley way of saying "IQ test". Oh and she had some contention with the way school years are assigned, because apparently people born in December have less abilities than those born in January. o.O I wanted to suggest to her to write in to MOE to make them assign classes based on, I dunno, date of birth, but it sounded too snarky. :/ And the best and most fallacious one of all: ALL GEP PUPILS ARE ONLY IN BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS CAN PAY FOR EXPENSIVE TUITION!!!! Never mind that I've never had tuition, or that my family is working class. Or that I don't live off chicken essence. It's okay, because even though I've never been for a coaching lesson (and in fact, frequently ridicule them) I am from GEP and therefore I have had expensive tuition. Wow, impeccable logic. And then I realised how fun slamming people's arguments were, and then went on Stomp and starting niaoing everyone who took pictures of people on the MRT with bags on priority seats ("This cowardly method of hiding behind a computer screen is singularly effective. Why don't you just get together some guts and tell the guy to remove his bag? Huh?!" ) I think I might just be a sadist :/

OMG LOL I opened inet and this screamed out at me: "SDP Education Programme Bursary Awards 2009". Hello opposition party much! So I clicked on it, eager to find out what kind of new funky opposition recruitment drive they have this time. And chey it turned out to be " The Society for the Physically Disabled (SDP) is pleased to invite applications for the SDP Education Programme Bursary Award 2010."
Um correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't it be S P D? Or maybe some people just have obsessions over opposition parties.
--
Apparently Rachel has been going around flashing people in her class. :/ Disturbing. She proudly announced that fact to me this afternoon in the canteen. And that some annoying voyueristic people have been taking... photos. I have a condescending comment all already prepared :)
I NEED TO START MUGGENGH.

EXCUSE ME WHAT DOESN'T WORK FOR BOUNDARY CASES. MY CODE SO WORKS OKAY. I TRIED IT ON BOUNDARY CASES AND THEY WERE THE FIRST ONES I TRIED LOR HELLO. UNLESS BY BOUNDARY YOU MEAN THE 9TH ROW OR 9TH COLUMN, WHICH IS SO SCREWED BECAUSE YOU ONLY SAID IT GOES UNTIL 8. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. SHEESH AND HELLO I BET YOU DIDN'T EVEN READ THROUGH MY CODE LA. BRUTE FORCE SO WORKS. THAT QUESTION IS UTTERLY BRUTEFORCEABLE. DON'T GIVE ME ONE PARAGRAPH OF DUMB WAFFLING ABOUT BRUTE FORCE AND BOUNDARY CASES. HOW ANNOYING! Wow that felt good. NSC keeps pissing me off, and I have LOADS of things I want to tell them, mostly in caps and interspersed with four-letter words, but I won't because Dr Ng will make it couch it in a way that implies that I'm wrong. Which I won't do because, please, I have some pride. Why should I admit to something that I didn't do? Plus I really cannot stand people who sign off "thanx" in formal letters. Hmm am quite excited about coursework. I have an idea (which is infinitely better off than the previous practical) and I feel more secure about it this time round. So hopefully can get my SAP GPA to 3.2 la. Like that I'll be happy already :/ I somehow get this feeling that my standards have been dropping truckloads ever since primary school. But I'm really worried about my GPA ahh how ): Stupid SS PT ruined my 4.0. Need to get at least 13 for the final paper, which is... urgh. And I need 41/45 for bio, which is hell of a lot. GAAAAAAAAAAH. Kishore Mahbubani is my idol. He totally creamed that pretentious BBC guy. "LET ME FINISH ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION!!!!!" and "Now tell me, which restricts people's freedom more; allowing torture, or defamation laws?" In your face, stupid pretentious asshole! Eh amazingly right AV shirt got approved. "The fact that you can't sing is not a technical problem" IS APPROVED. And they even commented that it was a "nice design". Quickquick let's get it printed before they change their minds! (:

Ohsheesh. More family drama with the number one dysfunctional family. The haze STINKS. I sneezed and sniffed all the way through Bio. I am tired. ): I want to sleep, but EYAs are coming argghhhh. URGH CAN THEY JUST START BEATING EACH OTHER UP ALREADY. If I were the dunce I would have pummeled that guy in the salmon pink shirt starting from about 10 sentences ago. Ah today during Chinese suddenly some alarm started wailing and we all got a horrible shock. I used to be able to tell apart the sirens when I was small and took NE super seriously, but these things fade with time. So now when I hear an alarm that's not broadcast over the school's PA system, I take it as "AIR RAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111" So I started screaming and clambered under the table, because I think that's what you're supposed to do in an air raid? Or maybe an earthquake. Whatever. I figure putting one layer between you and the bomb is always beneficial. I thought we were all going to die. Like the N Korea guy had finally snapped and declared nuclear war on the world. Either that or Osama finally decided to bomb Shangri-La/American Club/the school affliated to the one from which sprang forth the PAP. Or Skynet'd become sentient, and declared war on human kind O: Yeah until someone finally decided to share the information that the signal was just so that everyone in Singapore could get to hear what it's like. How annoying. Vital information like this should be shared at the START of the signal, or before it. Not after people have clambered after the table and embarrassed themselves.

Keyun I agree ): But anyway we tried our best already la; AND MY CODE SO WORKS. Hmm I see a tag that needs explanation. Dear "passerby", just because I do not suscribe to the soppy and badly-acted bullshit that is... whatever that 9pm show is called, doesn't mean that I don't value kinship, or don't "treasures" it. If you don't agree with my critique, you are welcome to do so, but without making any jibes about whether or not I value kinship. It is possible to value kinship without agreeing with or watching HK dramas, which as I have already mentioned in my previous post, are really, really, really bad representations of family life. Because to the best of my knowledge, second wives are uncommon, and generally hardly so many people in one household have affairs at the same time. Furthermore, these (bad) actors are not my kin. How does not enjoying their (bad) acting have any impact on how I love my family? I don't love them; and they are not my family. You ought to transferring your value of familial relationships onto a drama. Stick around a little more; or watch more shows. I used to love HK dramas when I was 8 and actually believed that whatever they showed was REAL. And sure, my taste may be anomalous, but that's hardly a reason to criticize it or question my values. Also, in future, please tag using a recognisable name, because I don't like it when people tag using anonymous names.

hongkong dramas
Thursday, September 10, 2009
I feel my brains melting out of my ears. My mum is watching that horrible 9pm HK drama, which I bet will have a thousand episodes, like its predecessor Zhen Qing. As expected, it is filled with affairs (ooh, and this affair-hating guy who apparently got "hopping mad" when he found out that his son was having an affair with a married woman HAS TWO WIVES. Yeah, wow, big difference.) I count at least 3 pairs. EVERYONE IS SO BLOODY DYSFUNCTIONAL I WANT TO STAB THEM SO BAD. They have sporadic sessions of family cheerleading sessions or some crap, where the ruling matriarch displays her... matriarchsocity and how benign and kind she is. And then after that the camera shot pans to some family conflict where people shout at each other, hit each other, and then collapse and get sent to hospital. And then they make up and THE BLOODY CYCLE STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. If families were so screwed up in real life, I would kill myself. I have tried making up interesting lines for all the characters which all culminate in them blowing themselves up, because that's the only way I see that could make this show an iota more interesting, but my mum apparently doesn't appreciate wit and I got told off for making this shitty drama more lifelike. Because really, no one can survive each other that long without moving off and cutting off all ties with their schizophrenic parents. Oh gosh and the background music is crap. Can't two people enter a room without foreboding thunder and lightning sounds? I mean, sure, we get that something foreboding is going to happen. WE GOT IT WITHOUT THE WEATHER EFFECTS. And this extract: Second wife: "I'm a horrible person! -sniff- I have done so many wrong things! -sniff- I embezzled 20 or 30 million from your family -dabs at eyes pitifully- I know I can't expect you to forgive me! -looks pleadingly at husband with "forgive me plzzzzzz" expression- Husband: "Oh..." Second wife: "I am an evil person!!!!!!1111 -runs out of room-" Either the second wife is a sucky actor, or she's one of those annoying people who say the opposite of what they mean. And the Schizo Mum is telling everyone her life story in a bid to get her daughter in law and son (who are both having affairs or some crap) in a bid to get them back together. She is faker than Barbie. And then hearing her soliloquoy about having cancer, the previously irreconcilable couple kiss and make up. HELLO?! REAL LIFE DOESN'T HAPPEN LIKE THAT. And her lines are so cheesy I could eat them with nachos for life. HK dramas are a bad influence. I can't code with my brains leaking out my ears.

Keyun and I are not looking forward to NSC on Saturday, because of the promised "fun activities" that are supposed to take place along with lunch. I do hope that "fun activities" isn't a synonym for "musical chairs", or "pin the tail on the donkey", or "other random kid game which was fun when I was 5". -- Yes I am still taking Jap, Wesley :D I intend to take Jap for as long as possible because I LOVE HANAZAWA RUIIIII. :D :D :D :D :D :D -huge grin- I have more Jap DVDs now and a happy number of them feature Hanazawa Rui. Or at least, the guy who plays Hanazawa Rui. WHATEVER. I shall not rest until I have every single show that features Hanazawa Rui. On the bright side, I HAVE HANA KIMI (:

what is wrong with blogger
Monday, September 07, 2009
Oh no holiday boredom has already set in. I am itching to watch a movie with someone, anyone, but no one is free. Eh Keyun how about after prac? :D I can't wait till Wednesday. We're going to Malaysia. And I can stock up with Jap DVDS AWESOMEZXS. Uh, all in the name of practising for the orals, mind you. Although some people from my mum's side of the family are coming along and I don't really get along very well with my extended family. :/ Plus they are not Book People and will probably object to spending the whole time in Harris. Which is what I am fully planning to do, like it or not. I have THIS many -spreads out arms wide- DVDs I want to buy. Instead my mum has thoughtlessly loaned all my DVDs to my grandma because "she's bored". SO AM I. Except my grandma is just calling people to rant about how bored she is instead of putting the DVDs to good use. So I have finished reading all the Pearls before Swine comics availible online (until 28 June 2008 ONLY. D:) and am now watching the 10 o clock Taiwanese drama. I feel like I have reached new depths of shallowness. (Ah, ha, ha) There are two guys fighting over one girl on screen currently, and I'm rooting for the one with BRAIDED HAIR and a freaking twit ponytail. Simply because the other one has a unibrow. OMG LOL Unibrow is confessing his feelings. "I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU." but it's so hilarious because his unibrow is moving up and down in his frustration. THIS IS HILARIOUS. I'm sorry I know it's supposed to be an angsty moment, but HELLO UNIBROW OWNAGE MUCH.

"Okay. Mine says 'kittens'. Yours?" "I... uh..." "Oh god." "I'm more than just a spambot! Our love was real!" "Goodbye, Lisa." I'M MORE THAN JUST A SPAMBOT! OUR LOVE WAS REAL! My new favourite lines of forever. And that was the singularly saddest break up of the year. So there you go people. Another test before taking that leap and -cough- doing it. If you met your significant other online, he or she might just be a SPAMBOT. Then again there ARE human equivalents of those too.

a sign
Thursday, September 03, 2009
I have received a sign from the programming gods. Today during Math I was stoning, when Mr Yang announced that we were going to have a "Math Comprehension!" Now that obviously sounds like no fun. I thought it was going to be more boring crap about illegal immigrants and bearings or something, but when I got the worksheet it proudly proclaimed across the top: "RECURSION." I sat there stunned. And then I started grinning because Math compre was obviously going to be peanuts, and then I started sulking because I remembered that I have to start on NSC prac. This is obviously a sign from the programming gods. They want me to start practising. And I should, really. Or else I'll start finding strings in my noodles and ints when I'm using the (int)ernet AHAHAHAHA. But yes about the recursive Math compre. I was basically smirking "YAY RECURSIVE FUNCTIONS! FUNCTION CALLS ITSELF! WHOOOO!" and skipped the whole first page. Second page (with all the questions) was SUPER FUN. Something about the number of ways you can go up a step. Super simple la just solve for base cases and then RECURSE. YAY. -dances around in joy- Hmm I feel disproportionately happy about recursive functions. Maybe I really am becoming a geek. When I saw Rachel and... Rachel, at Orchard MRT station (which -cough- happens to be the nearest MRT station to school?! HELLO?!) she gave me a badge that says "Geeks Unite!". I pinned it to my backpack. And then she started feeling worried that I would get insulted, but honestly I feel kinda flattered. Ooh. Art pop quiz today was horrible. I studied so hard and then it turned out to be quite informal. TSK. I made my way easily through the first few and then I started forgetting, so... yeah. I made up names for the artworks which names I couldn't remember. Like there was one which I named "Lady and weasel". It turned out to be "Lady with an Ermine at Cracow" or something like that. Not far off la hor. Just name the wrong rodent only. But luckily that was Renaissance art. There was one which was minimalism, and I named it "Black Trapezium", because THAT'S WHAT IT WAS. REALLY. It turned out to be "Homage to Life" or some cheem shit. Sigh so annoying.

demolition lovers
Tuesday, September 01, 2009
I was trying to do Lit PT when I heard a familiar thumping sound outside my window. I thought nothing of it at first because there's demolition going on outside RGS and we've all managed to kind of drown out the thumping sounds. And then suddenly I realised that something didn't concile. If I were in RGS this would be ok, but I'm at home and THERE IS STILL DEMOLITION GOING ON WTF. WHAT CAN'T I EVEN GET A QUIET MOMENT AT HOME?! Do I have to wear earplugs or something like that in order to get a minute of concentration -__- There are times I wish I'd taken Geog instead because it is so muggable.
